I have lots of questions about the EEA EFM form??

Post by PeatD » Thu Jan 28, 2016 9:40 pm

Hi! I'm currently on a Tier 5 Youth mobility visa and am looking to apply for a resident card as the unmarried partner of my Italian partner. We've together 2.5 years, 1 year in Sydney and the rest of our time in London, both working full time since we got here. I've started to fill out the EEA(EFM) form for "extended family members", which I understand is for unmarried partners in a "durable relationship".

I had a few questions about the form and the supporting documents but haven't been able to find a contact number or email address for queries or assistance. I had a look for some similar Q&As but couldn't find anything, so hoping to ask a few questions here please:

Section 1.18 "Home office reference number?" I'm not sure I have one - what is it? Would my boyfriend have one too?

Documents:
Section 2 - My partner's proof of ID. He wants to submit his national identity card as he travels for work and needs his passport. His national ID card is entirely in Italian and I struggled to fill out the questions in Q2.14 so I was wondering if I will need to have it translated by a qualified professional translator?

Section 5 Proof of durable relationship. We lived together before in Sydney and then moved together to London about a year and a half ago. We don’t have mail addressed to the both of us together, so I understand thats 6 bits each. The documents with our address in London is not an issue, but documents and bills to our Sydney address, Im a little unsure of. We’ve found a few things with our Sydney address with dates, but not sure if they would be acceptable? We have:
- my partners confirmation of enrolment to Syd Uni
- my partners confirmation of health insurance
- my partners printed visa application for our travels to India
- 2 of my tax summaries from difference employers
- 2 printed copies of my gas and electricity bills (I had some old e-statements saved)

Could there be a problem with these documents? I was going to also contact my Australian bank to request a backdated bank statement to show my Sydney address in 2013 with official stamp, in case some of the documents above weren't suitable?

Also if I’m submitting payslips as proof of address, can i count the same one as proof of employment too? Or better to supply a different one?

Apologies for so many questions, I’m just really not sure where to go for help! Hoping to apply soon! Thank you in advance!

If you have not applied to HO previously you won't have a reference number.

2 You can apply then later on request the documents (including passport) to be returned (without impacting the application).

5 Yes, all those types of official documents sound fine.
The more the better.
If you can persuade the bank to add some more proofs then do it.
It's your call how you represent the documents; it's HO choice how to regard them
- none of this is defined in EU law.

Your aim is to eliminate any/all HO 'wriggle room';
do that by presenting an unimpeachable case with adequate documentary supporting evidence that cannot be discounted or questioned.

Thank you for your replies @noajthan, very much appreciated! :)

I don't believe I've applied to the home office before - unless i did when i applied for my UK Tier 5 Visa in Sydney? My application has the UK Visas & Immigration letter head. Would the application ID from that be considered a Home Office number?

Regarding my partners Proof of ID - if he did submit the national ID card instead, would it need to be translated? he travels on short notice, so he’s really reluctant to submit that, even if we could request it back. The national ID card appears to be a proper option in Q2.15 but it looks like this example off google http://www.spavaldi.it/Immagini/spavald ... o/c.d..gif

Do you think the passport’s still the safer option?

Thats great to know you think the documents would be ok :) Ill get the bank letter and send photos of us together too if it helps? Or is that going overboard lol?

I really appreciate all the advice you’ve given! Thank you! Fingers crossed!

Yes, try that ID - they just want to look you up.

ID should be acceptable (as its listed in the documents list) but I think you will need some sort of certified translation.
If you submit passport you will be able to get it back.
Others members have done this & posted in the forum about it.

Be choosy with photos but yes they will help.
Not 2000. Nothing dodgy or un-PC (obviously!).
A few tasteful & carefully chosen photos perhaps.
Photographs of the couple.
Other evidence demonstrating their commitment and relationship.
