HELP? ITALIAN GRANDFATHE NATURALIZED IN SOUTH AFRICA IN 1914

Post by karinnorth » Sun Aug 10, 2014 3:52 pm

I am EXTREMELY confused..... please could someone assist me?

My Grandfather and Grandmother, native born Italian citizens, were born in 1877 and 1888 respectively.
They moved to South Africa, independently, in 1903 and 1908.
They married, in South Africa, in 1909.
They had 3 children, in South Africa, between 1910 – 1913.
My Grandfather naturalized in South Africa on 19th November 1914. (South Africa was a British Colony at this time)
They had another child, in South Africa, in 1915 – My Mother
Both my Grandfather and Grandmother died in South Africa, in 1953 and 1972, respectively.
My Mother married a Norwegian Citizen, (my Father) in South Africa, in 1943.
My Father and Mother died, in South Africa, in 1990 and 2004, respectively.
I was born in South Africa in 1955.
I married a South African in 1986.
I had 2 children, in South Africa, in 1987 and in 1991.
I am still married.

Where does that leave me????

When my Grandfather naturalized, did he become a British subject?
Did my Italian Grandmother lose her citizenship when her husband naturalised in 1914?
If “yes”, she obviously became a British Citizen?
If “no”, her Italian citizenship remained in tact?
What of the 3 minor children who were born before my GF's naturalization?
Would my Mother (born 11 months after my GF naturalized) have been born a British citizen?
What transpired when South Africa became independent of Britain in 1961? - Did British citizens, gained by naturalization, lose their citizenship?
Do I qualify for British citizenship?
Do my children qualify for British citizenship?
If “no”, do we qualify for Italian citizenship, if the 1948 Rule can be overturned in court?

Please help? I am so muddled, I just do not know where we stand! Thanks in advance.
