Help needed - going to the UK

Post by schrynos » Mon Sep 21, 2009 2:20 am

Hi there,

My British passport has expired and I want to renew it. It expired earlier this year. When renewing passports is there a police check done against me? Or is that only for new applications?

If there was something minor on my police record, could I be denied a new British passport? Or worse, denied entry into the UK? My father was born in the UK however I was not, and have obtained the passport through his heritage.

Any information you could provide relating to this would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
TW

If you are a British citizen you can not be denied entry to the UK, and I can't think of any circumstances where you would be refused a passport to return to UK. (Sometimes people who are facing trial in the UK, or such as football hooligans have to surrender their passports to prevent them leaving).
If there is a warrant out for your arrest you could be detained on arrival, but some minor offence on your record is unlikely to attract any attention.
