Help please. Confused about public funds.

Hi, could someone help me please. I am married to Turkish man, who is at the moment in the Turkish army. We have been married 3 years.My husband is applying for his settlement visa when he leaves the army in January.
I will be his sponsor.Having been out of work due to ill health, I am currently looking for work and will be employed before he applies. I have a child of 17 who is in full time education and am claiming child benefit , council tax/Housing benefit,child tax credits and income support.
I am confused about the ruling regarding public funds. can i claim for anything? or do i have to stop claiming benefits entirely before he can apply for his visa? thank you for any help.
