HELP!Processing time for petition of alien relative (spouse)

Please help us....my husband is a US citizen who file I-130 last March 2006. He received a letter of receipt but was asked to send a revised biographic information again. He sent it last August 2006 but did not receive any letter until today. I'd like to know, do you think there are problems with the submitted form or is there a possiblity that our papers were lost? Should we hire an immigration lawyer to help us or should we just wait? For how long? PLease help us...we're on our 3rd year of marriage but we haven't experienced how it is to be really married because of our distance. :cry:
