U.S to UK - help!!

Post by nickmoore211 » Sat Apr 12, 2008 10:59 am

Hi everyone,

I hope someone will have the knowledge to help me.....

I am a British citizen myself but my girlfriend is a U.S citizen. We desperately want to be together and have the opportunity for a "normal" relationship and she would very much like to work in London.

She is studying a retail management course at the University of Arizona and will graduate next May. Within this she did a semester abroad at Westminster University (London) last fall. We were hoping she would be able to come over after that by obtaining a job with one of the big companies such as arcadia group etc but looking at there websites they specify that you should only apply if you are eligible to work in the UK.

I looked into the new tier system and looked at the calculator to see if she would obtain the necessary 75 points once she graduates. She gets the following (approx):

22 years old - 20pts
bachelors - 30 pts

And maybe a low number (5) for previous earnings etc.

It seems to me that she does not have a chance of getting a Visa until she has gained a history of recorded earnings of approx £25,000 per anum (prob 2-3yrs)....

Have I missed any other options or opportunities for consideration or is there just no hope right now? :-(

Please help!!!

Nick

well we do want to live together but if she was to able to get over we would live seperately at first and look to move in together once things have settled down. Basically take one step at a time and not pressure ourselves.

Marriage has been mentioned but that would preferrably be a long way down the line..... If things worked out after a few years and if we wanted to I would go back to the states with her - I would actually go now but I am not in a position in my career to be accepted over there yet.... am just finishing a graduate scheme myself and starting a P/T masters etc

So not too sure :-/
