Help with mother's visa

I am on an HSMP Visa. My mother-in-law has a visa to the UK for 2 years. However, at a time, she cannot live for more than 6 months at a time on a visit.
At the end of 6 months, if she visits somewhere in Europe, and returns to UK, will she be able to begin the second 6 monthly stay here.

i guess one more rules applies. ie. visitors cannot stay in this country not more than 6 months in 1 year period
