How to explain immigration status to employers??

Hi all,

I am an International Student who just handed in his MA dissertation. As I understand I am now allowed to work full-time for the last 4 months remaining on my Student Visa. I have been applying for jobs and I have got my dream job 1st telephone interview tomorrow. I have had the PSW visa in the past when i was graduated from my BA therefore not eligible for it. My potential employer is in the register of sponsors of the UKBA with a Tier 2 "A" rating (Tier 2 General) therefore is allowed to hire international graduates without running out of its allocated certificates of sponsorship.

My question is, how can I explain it to them when they ask me if require a work permit to work in the UK, and if i have one and when does it expire? are recruiters aware of this situation?? They seem not to have a clue.

It is unfortunate to be in your situation in the current economic climate. You can explain it briefly and clearly stating that there are no restrictions in allocating COS for in country applications.

I am assuming that your job falls under one of the few "recent graduate" SOC codes.

However, expanding on my earlier comment about the current economic climate, unless you are exceptionally talented, companies would definitely think twice about employing you.

With respect to the question of whether you can work as Tier 4 migrant after completing your course, refer them to Appendix D of this UKBA document.

If you need to Tier 2 sponsorship to be able to live and work in the UK after your Tier 4 leave expires, then you will need to be upfront about it and leave it to a potential employer to ascertain if you are a suitable candidate for employment and sponsorship.
