How far in advance for Schengen?

Post by Redtape Hater » Mon Apr 30, 2007 1:31 pm

How far in advance do I need to apply for a Schengen visa?
I need one for this August to the Netherlands. I have applied for one before, but not from the Dutch embassy in the UK. Thanks

Depending where you reside? If you live outside the UK you should apply at your nearest Dutch embassy in your country.

Thanks for replying. I live in the UK. Do you think getting an interview date two weeks before I am supposed to fly is risky? Bearing in mind I've been given a Schengen visa before.

When I contacted the Dutch embassy for an appointment, I received the following email from them:

"It will take approximately 4 weeks from the date of application for your visa to be issued providing your application is successful. (you will be required to sign a Visa Declaration at interview should your travel date be before the 4 week period has expired as the Embassy will not be held responsible should you not receive your passport/visa in time for travel. i.e. you apply at your own risk)"

So in short, try for an appointment at least 5 weeks before the time as it will give enough time for processing.
