How to pay for Form NR - Citizenship application review

Post by majimbos » Wed Oct 18, 2023 10:53 pm

Could someone please assist me with information on how I can pay for Form NR? I need my citizenship application to be reviewed by the Home Office because they have made a mistake. The form from here does not say who to make or address the payment to - https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... ed-form-nr

I am one of the unlucky people with a name that has been associated with a known criminal or person of interest. Others are facing the same issue as me and we all get held up at the airport - https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... ly-delayed

In this instance of the citizenship application, my application has been refused due to failing to meet the good character requirement. This is because a person was arrested soon after I submitted my citizenship application and he was using my name as an alias. So my name shows up on a search for the respective courts but it also shows that it's because it was used as an alias by the convicted person. The courts have been able to confirm to me via email that I am not the one convicted.

I have zero criminal convictions and a DBS clearance done months after the other person's conviction, which shows I have no criminal records. The Home Office is aware of the mistaken identity and I have communicated to them several times to rectify the issue but they have told me that due to national security, they cannot disclose any information.

Here's a link to a payment slip which you need to print out, provide card details or send a cheque: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... plications
If they clearly have have made a mistake it's surprising you have to pay for them to look into it (though the fee will be refunded if/when you have been successful).

Thanks for the response. My application was finally approved on the 19th December. UKVI took out the £372 on the 27th October. I am still waiting for the funds to be returned :(

First of all congratulations. Fast turnaround for a change. I guess the refund will take a while. Perhaps leave it til early new year to chase.
And no indication why they changed their mind?

Their policy https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... policy.pdf doesn't state the timeline for refunds - I suspect it may well take a few weeks if not months, though I hope they process it quicker. Save all records of correspondence etc so you can follow up in the new year.
