How do Promotions Work?

Post by AndAllTheRest » Tue Jun 10, 2014 5:51 pm

Hello,

So I'm a Tier 2 General. Job title—Specialist Editor. Salary—25,500.

My sponsor wants to promote me to Senior Specialist Editor, at 27,500.

I retain all my core duties; I'm simply doing more of them, plus managing one other editor. There's no other relevant SOC code, so that's not changing at all.

Is there any big issue here? As I understand it, my sponsor just needs to contact the HO via the SMS and inform them of a technical change (reiterating that all core duties remain the same and SOC is still correct). Is that right?

And as a followup: There was no maximum salary listed for my position when my sponsor carried out their RLMT. So am I correct in assuming I can continue to get raises/promotions (that don't change my SOC code or core duties) for the next three years, gradually increasing my salary to £35,000? (I.e., the minimum salary for ILR.)

Any advise is very much appreciated!

If your new role results in SOC code change you will need to fill out a change of circumstances application which is essentially treated as a new Tier 2 application.
