How residence is assessed by the system under EU settlement Scheme

Post by askmeplz82 » Fri Jun 14, 2019 7:03 am

The process starts by carrying out automated checks of your HMRC and DWP records to try and establish how long you have lived in the UK.

Automated checks are only carried out for the last 7 years.

Tax records are only checked for the purpose of establishing residence, the amount of tax paid is not taken into account.

There is no requirement to have worked, nor paid taxes, for settled status, however, in the absence of records, you may be required to provide evidence of residence.

The form asks if you have been known by other names. This is to be able to locate your records if you got married or changed your name by deed poll, etc.
