HPDL Help!!

I sent off my HPDL on the 10th of May in time for the 20th May (expires) after discretionary 3 years. I was granted outside immigration rules following my asylum refusal but granted due to kidney failure. I have had a double transplant and am on life medication, I made them aware of this. Since writting I havent heard anything nor any acknowledgement letter despite ringing them which they said 14weeks. I recently graduated as a secondary maths teacher july 2011 and since Uni is closed I have nothing nor even a job as I have no documents and can't really get by given my health (being in hospital twice already with complications), cannot claim job seekers or support, no documents.
Plase help who can I contact please help.

as you made an time application to extend your leave, your leave is treated as continuing under section 3C of the Immigration Act 1971. You are therefore permitted to work and claim benefits.

If you need to claim benefits then do so and provide them evidence that you have submitted your application. they can contact UKBA to confirm that your application is outstanding.

A prospective employer can also contact the employer checking service to check that you are allowed to work

Thank you Greenie so very much for the input and information you have given it is helpful. As for evidence do you think the recorded delivery post office receipt will suffice with most/all oganisations as evidence of posting application.
In your opinion or experience if I haven't received acknowledgement letter can the status come before acknowledgement and what are the current time scales ou have encountered for people recieving an extension.

i am afraid that HPDL extentions can take months or even years to be decided.

An employer probably won't accept a RD receipt but they can ring the helpline.

The Job Centre should be able to contact UKBA through other means if they are not happy with the receipt It might help to write to UKBA again to ask for a letter confirming your application is outstanding. When did you claim asylum? was it before of after March 2007?

When writting UKBA it would be the standard address on the HPDL application form.

correct. In that case then your case may well fall under the remit of CAAU.
