hsmp after work permit- duration of the visa

Post by hsmporwp » Tue Jul 31, 2007 4:53 pm

Hi everyone

I have a friend who is on work permit for 1 year now. He is considering to apply for HSMP but worried about loosing his current 5 year visa.

If he was granted with HSMP what would be the visa issued afterwards?

Thanks for your help

I think the initial HSMP is issued for 24 months (2 years), then you need to meet the requirements for an extension, which would give you another 3 years.

Thanks Sakura,

But is the inital visa for HSMP issued regardless of your current visa?

What i mean is my friend has got 5 year visa already. Will that one be cancelled and they will issue a new 2 year visa? This would naturally risk his ILR ambition as noone knows what will change in 2 years time.

On the other hand you do have 5 year visa on your passport...

Well interesting dilemma...

The new visa will be issued in line with the new IED, ie 2 years.
