HSMP - Decision

Post by FasuloLE » Fri Jul 20, 2007 11:33 am

Hi I submitted my HSMP application last month and although I had a delivery confirmation from UPS I was never sent a reference number. Thereofre I emailed for an update/reference number. The return email gave the reference number and went on to say:

"Your caseworker came to a decision on your application on 11/07/2007, and your decision letter and documents have been returned to you via airmail."

I haven't received the decision letter yet and I have to go out of town so I can't check my mail for a few days. i am dying of curiiousity. Do you think this wording means my application was denied? From reading these boards, it seems to me that others have been told of an approval over the phone etc.

Any input? Also if I call there, will they tell me the decision over the phone? Thanks for your help.

Me neither. No big deal. I phoned and asked for it and they gave my ref. no. to me over the phone.

Bog standard. They cannot disclose decisions by e-mail, whether positive or negative.

If you're dying of curiosity why have you not yet phoned the HSMP help line to ask your result?

The wording is bog-standard, copied/pasted, approved text. It is not a personal message to you. It's to protect the HO and you from anyone getting hold of personal information about you. E-mail is not considered a secure means of communication by the Government.

Other people have phoned up and ASKED directly. Do not expect the HSMP people to pick up the phone to call you. They will never call you. You must call them. The phone number is easy to to find on the workingintheuk.gov.uk website.

Here's a rough transcript of the phone call I made to find out my result:

Me: (dial the HSMP enquiry phone number)
HSMP phone rep person ("HSMP prp"): (pick up phone)
Me: Hi, I'd like to to check the status of my application.
HSMP prp: Okay, let me confirm your details....
[confirmation of name, address, date of birth, HSMP case ref. number, etc.]
HSMP prp: A decision has been made and the decision letter has been posted.
Me: Really?! Wow. I heard that when a decision has been made and the materials are in the post an applicant may be able to speak with a caseworker to find out the result?
HSMP prp: Hold on, I'll see if he's available.
[on hold for a few minutes]
Caseworker: Hello, is that Miss ball1333?
Me: Yes.
[Caseworker says he's sorry to say he rejected my app because he couldn't see how the payslips corroborated the amount of income I claimed, I explain how it works, then he says, "Oh dear. Now I can't promise any particular result but in this situation you may be successful on review, if you explain in your review request letter what you've outlined to me just now." A bit more chat, as I explain that I did what I did in my application on the advice of a an HSMP phone rep person and maybe there's a need for some further training, etc., among the staff.]

A few weeks after submitting my review app I phoned back to check the progress of my review app. When the HSMP prp said a decision had been made and I asked to speak with the caseworker, she put me on hold for a moment, then told me herself. I think she might have been checking with a supervisor whether it was okay for her to tell me the result, as the caseworker may personally have been unavailable, or whatever. At any rate I found out on 12 June that my app had been approved on review on 6 June. :)
