HSMP visa holders and job in public sector of UK

Can HSMP visa holders be employed in the public sector of the UK?
Do the local councils fall within the category of public sector in UK?

I would appreciate if someone can guide me about the above questions.

Sorry SYH, I could not get it clearly. Do u mean to say that a person going to the UK on hsmp visa can work any where, including the public sector? Would u lkindly clarify?

Most public sector jobs are open to all nationals and so you can apply if it doesn't explicitly state that you have to hold a specific nationality.

For example, some Civil Service/government jobs are for British and sometimes EU/EEA nationals only. Local government jobs (which obviously are public sector because they are government), however, are generally not restricted, but do check the job requirements before applying.

The one exception to the above is jobs which involve national security issues.
