Husband Visa Advice

Post by sam09s » Wed Apr 07, 2010 8:37 pm

Hi, I am new to this site and need some answers if someone can help me. I was born in the UK and live here, my husband is currently living in Spain but was born in Chile so that is why we are having to apply for a visa. OK background info sorted. We are currently doing his visa application online and after we have submitted he will have to go to Madrid to have his interview and submit his bio info. The first stumbling block is that on Part 1: it says, What is the purpose of your visit to the UK? we have put settlement. How long do you intend to stay in the uk and it requires dates!!! I know that if it is granted it will be for 2 years and then after hopefully his remain to stay but do I just put in 2 years and then the dates? Please help this is very confusing. Thanks :0)

Put any date! 2+ years into the future, if you like! They won't hold it against you. It is a settlement visa, after all. :)

Make sure your husband takes a copy of your husband's Vida Laboral with
him to the Madrid consulate. My husband didn't, and had to return the next day to submit it with the application.
Regarding the date...submit any 'hypothetical' date well in the future. The online form won't allow you to continue without inputing something.

You husband will know. It's his official 'Work history' from the equivalent of our 'Social Security office'. He may be able to apply for a copy online. Try www.seg.social.es/inicio

Well my husband went to Madrid on Monday, took all our things and left it all there and they took his fingerprints and things, but he didn't have an interview. They said his passport would probably be posted back to him in 15 days and he would get an answer yes or no between 15 days and 2 months. They gave him a form to fax back to them for me to sign to sponsor him and send in copies of utility bills where he will be living, council tax copy and house deeds. But I wrote that they have all the things about the house, he left them in Madrid with the paperwork and you don't get the deeds until you finish the mortgage. But if they want to check they can contact the mortgage company which is my bank. So fingers crossed we just have to wait now I suppose.

I doubt very much whether they will contact your bank. They will have expected to have a copy of the mortgage agreement submitted with the other documents. Didn't you include a letter of sponsorship with the application?

Hi ya, well we filled out the entire form online and printed and also included everything about the mortgage and our emails, phone records, marriage certificate, photos, wedding documents, travel plane tickets, hotel reservations. So I think the sponsor form was with the original sponsor settlement visa forms we did. But they gave him this form without looking inside the folder.

They appear to have changed the system in Madrid from when my husband applied in 2006 when they interviewed and issued the visa on the same day.

Yes thats what I seem to think so we are so nervous on what happens next. They said within 15 days they will send his passport back to him (which before they kept until the visa was denied or approved) and said it could take 15 days to 2 months. I have sent an email to them yesterday to ask if there is some kind of tracking device so we can track the application. But I doubt it.
