ILR- Advise

Post by Sam123 » Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:09 pm

Hi all

I am going to apply for ILR on the basis of WP in July 2007. I came here as a student in Nov 1998 and granted a visa for 3 years untill Nov 2001. I changed from one University to other couple of times as I had some problems with my mentor in Ph.D, but did not tell HO- as I was not aware that I need to inform HO as I was on legal visa. I again extended visa at heathrow in Oct 2001 for another 9months and in the mean time I was granted WP beofre ending my student visa.

I changed 3 jobs in the last 5 years and got new WP on each occassion.

As I said earier I will apply for ILR in July 2007, if they ask me why didn't I tell them about the change of University. I am bit panicked. What should I tell them if they ask me.

Thanks

As you will be applying for ILR on the basis of your work permit, your time spent on a student visa in the UK will not even be considered. All supporting documentation for your ILR application will be related to your time in the UK as a work permit holder.

I doubt the Home Office even knows about your change of university and in any case it is irrelevant. Your history as a student in the UK will play no part in your application as the caseworker will only be interested in examining your time in the UK that is relevant to your ILR application, i.e. your time spent on the work permit in the last 5 years.

So chill out and relax. You have nothing to worry about.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.
