ILR allowed days to travel outside UK in 12 month period calculation

Hello, everyone.

I am on a skilled worker dependant visa, with ILR eligibility in May 2026.
I visited India from October 30, 2023 to March 17, 2024. Plan to go back again in 2024 for at least three months(if allowed). I understand that we are only given 180 days in a 12-month period. So I'm wondering how exactly this 12-month period is calculated.? Is it May to May as my Visa date is May, which should give me another 180 days to travel, or Is it January to January, meaning that I have utilised some days in both 2023 and 2024? Or any other way. Could someone please clarify? I would be grateful. Thank you in advance.

It is on the basis of rolling period I.e. in any 12months period.

That is exactly my confusion regarding "any 12 month period." So, in my instance, how many additional days may I travel this year?

The rolling basis calculation means that you cannot have more than 180 days’ absences in ANY consecutive 365-day period. So in theory, if you choose any RANDOM date within the 5 year period and add 12 months to that date, that is your 12-month consecutive period and you should not have more than 180 days of absence in that period

So let's choose 11th March 2021. Your 365 days period will be from that date to 11th March 2022. In this period you cannot have more than 180 days of absence. Again, let's choose 12th March 2021. Your 365 days period will be from that date to 12th March 2022. In this period you cannot have more than 180 days of absence. and so on
