ILR Dependent - English Language Requirement

Post by dewang81 » Tue Jan 07, 2014 12:57 pm

Hi,

I will be applying for ILR in July 2014 and started to gather all the documents for myself as the main applicant and for my wife (as a dependent) as well as child. Can anyone provide the list of documents required for ILR Visa application for main applicant as well as dependent?

Also, I have been on TIER 1 (General) from July 2008 and my wife on TIER 1 (General) Dependent from December 2009. I've got a post-grad degree from University in the UK and it is also present on the UKBA's PBC (points-based calculator). But in regards to my wife, she had done AMITE (Graduateship) Examination through distant-learning in India from IETE (The Institution of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers, New Delhi, India). She's already taken the LIUK test and has passed it and I've booked it for myself for the next week.

The query is -
Does she have to take ESOL exam (and if so which as there are lot of tests on http://www.cambridgeenglish.org/cambrid ... ration/uk/) or can she get UK NARIC certificate to get UK-equivalent degree for her course in India along with the letter from her institute stating her name, her degree and information that the course she passed was taught in English? The reason i was asking because i read on the UKBA site (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... nstrating/) that - The applicant will meet the language requirement if they have obtained an academic qualification (not a professional or vocational qualification), which is deemed by UK NARIC.

My wife eventually applied for ESOL exam and for B1 level in her exam. The exam was far too simple and applied to one of the ESOL Grade 5 exam at one of the Trinity Centres in london near to where we live. The exam lasted for only 10mins and she got the result right away although the certificate arrived a week after in the post. She just spoke about her family and how her life changed before and after marriage and how she now balances between both the families.

Hope it helps.
