ILR question

Post by stevied123 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 1:12 pm

Hello, apologies if this question has been answered before, I cannot find a similar one.

I am British, my fiancee is South African, she has her ILR interview on the 22nd June. All her documents are spot on, but I am a little worried that we live together in my house, on which I am the sole mortgage holder (we are not adding her until she gets ILR/we get married as it is too expensive). She pays me a payment for mortgage and bills each month ("mortgage" on both our bank statements) but we have no "official" document. Is this likely to be a problem? Can anyone help?

Also, how many utility bills are needed? Thanks, Steve.

On what basis is she applying for her ILR? That is, what type of visa does she have at the moment?

She works for the NHS as a physiotherapist, and is applying "under her own steam".... she has a work visa.

If that's the case, why are you concerned about proof of joint address?
You appear to be looking at ILR as a spouse or unmarried partner.

ILR question

Post by stevied123 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 6:04 pm

I was worried that if they ask her where she lives she has no "agreement", but having looked in (oh so much!) depth, they do NOT ask for proof of mortgage/rental agreement, just bills and bank details.

If anyone has any direct experience of this, please let me know. As I said, it may be an "obvious" question, but not when you're going through it for the first and only time. I am British: I have never had to do this. My fiancee is having to do it, it's worrying, they don't make the forms easy to understand and it's a LOT of money, so yes, people get emotional and stressed about it... it might seem silly to those who deal with it all the time, but it's not when you're directly involved and at the mercy of the Home Office.

Thanks for your help.

I guess what I am asking is this: she is living in my house and contributes to this, but doesn't have an "agreement". Does she need one?
