ILR or registration as BC for newborn??

Post by hert » Mon Jul 20, 2009 4:10 pm

Hi All,
I have browsed through this forum extensively but got mixed messages only, so am listing my question here to seek expert/members comments.

Can anyone comment on following:
A Total of 4 applicants
. Main applicant+ Dependents (Spouse+another child (~5yr)- already on LTR) - ILR due Aug-09. Appointment already booked.
. One child (Newborn) born in UK

Now the easy option:
Option 1 - We apply for ILR for child born in UK while applying for ILR for us and then go for Naturalisation together. No hassles for applying separately but will need end up paying more fee (how much?).

However, can someone his/her experience or knowledge whether it would be worthwhile going for following option:
Option 2 - We apply for ILR only for US and go for registration of newborn as BC once ILR is granted. Followed on by BC application process for 3 of us 1 yr after getting ILR. (Per UKBA site, the newborn will have entitlement for registration as BC)

What could be the pros and cons for these options 1 & 2?

Many Thanks

Option 1. £50 to include dependent on your ILR application. If you go for naturalisation together it will be (well if the 2kids apply at the same time) it will £460 + £50 for the kids.

Option 2. £460 for the child born here making application this year and another £460 when the Child no. 2 makes application.

Child born here does not necessarily need ILR for either of the 2 options but i guess its better to have something for them, either ILR or BC, asap in case they have to go out of the country within the next year.

Thanks f2k.

It's clear then that the option 1 is better & thanks for providing the link.
As I understand, we would need to make two different applications (one joint for husband/wife, another joint for two children) for naturalisation though am wondering if there's any way children can be included in the first application. Trying to explore if fee £460 + £50 for the kids can be saved :D . I guess i know the answer but if you know of any other option, pls write.

Many thanks

There is no other option to get British citizenship for the children.

BC Application as a Family

Post by Filipinas » Mon Jul 27, 2009 4:15 pm

Hi, the only way to apply for BC is to fill out 4 different applications for each of the 4 members (for you and spouse Form AN and kids MN1). Each member would need to be endorsed separately by 2 referees.

Though you may lodge yours and spouse's first and later on the children, but if you are going to apply through NCS you would be able to save up a bit when you lodge the application as a family (2 adults and 2 children).

Good luck!
