It would be helpful if you mention what type of visas you both are on?

Re: SET (M) Help - evidence of cohabitation and income

svalbarder wrote:Hi I'm about to apply for ILR Set (M) under unmarried partner .. I had been working up until summer last year when I decided to take up a one-year MSc course. My partner has never been employed and just stays at home etc.. Hence, we have zero income to fill the application form with but we are paying over a 1000 a month in rents..

We have been supporting ourselves using my savings from work plus our parents gave us a lump sum of money a couple of years back so each of us have a few hundred ks in our savings and investment accounts which pay our bills for the past year.. I intend to go back to work but not until after I finish my course. My question is do savings and share investments count as evidence that we can support ourselves without needing public funds?

Yes

another concern is the evidence of cohabitation.. it's complicated as we're living in a studio belonging to the university.. I don't like the way they sort our letters here (just laying them around on a table) so we continue to have our letters sent to our old address in london .. my brother now lives there and we go down to collect them every month or so.. so the problems are:

1. Last year the tenancy agreement was in my partner's name only because i was busy working and did not have time to go look for a flat
2. This year it's in my name only as it's from the university
3. we don't have any letters addressed in joint names at all .. didn't see a point of having a bank account together though we do share a credit card account but even that when they send us letters they just send it under my partner's name (the main cardholder)..

u can get letter from card company about jt holding

4. The tenancy agreement in london only lasted until last year, this year the agreement is for my university flat, but all our letters are still being sent to the london address

Will any of these be a problem? I can explain everything to them as I'm planning to apply in person but I'm not sure if any extra evidence would be needed ??? We have plenty of letters (bills, GPs and all) sent to the london address but not in joint names and nothing to this university address except for the internet and telephone bill under my name only.
Shall we just not mention this university address at all to avoid the extra questions ??? We have been going on a holiday together almost every month, do you think if i bring along our holiday bookings, photos etc would they consider that?

I'm sorry for the long post but there's a lot of explaining to do..

u can wait some time to sort out yr situation

Form SET(M) asks for a minimum of 6 pieces of written evidence (bills/documents) from 3 separate categories spread as evenly as possible over the full 2 years....in joint names if possible. If these aren't in joint names then you need to submit additional evidence in single names.
Can you do this? If not, then I would advise strongly against applying in person. At least with a postal application you should be given the opportunity to submit additional information if required. PEO applications are for applications which are 100% straightforward.
You may benefit from having a document check by a legal professional before you submit your application.
