ILR validity after passport expiry

Post by Haris2108 » Thu Jul 21, 2022 2:25 am

A clarification pls

My wife was granted ILR. Her Indian passport expired recently and she didn’t renew it yet. Does her stay become illegal in Uk with no valid passport in Uk? Does UKBA charge any penalty if there is a gap between old and new passport(after renewal)?

Thanks

She should be okay.

ILR is an immigration status and it does not expire, so the fact that the passport has expired has no effect on such status. However old ILR stickers are useless to prove your right to work and rent in the UK. She is strongly advised to get a BRP: https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence- ... e-visa-brp
