ILR when seperated?

I have a friend who is unfortunately going through some tough times.

Therefore I want to help him in some way.


the scenario.
My friend came to the u.k on a spouse visa about 18 months ago and everything was very good between him and his wife at start, Both where very happy together and had a baby child.

Recently its not been so good. After seeing my friend after some weeks He has told me his wife has ruined his life completely and that he cannot see their marriage working.

He works full-time and pays all the bills in the household. He fully supports his family but now is losing hope in his marriage.

Is their any way of him applying for ILR if they have a divorce or decide to seperate

Has he been subjected to any domestic violence? If so, is there any independent proof of that in the records of the Police, hospital, GP or social workers?

If not he would be well advised to stick it out until he has his ILR near the end of the 2-year spouse visa, and indeed when the ILR application is made, he needs to mean what is said in the declaration ..... that at that point in time he intends to stay with his wife.
