Advice required, please [Daughter visa possibility]

Post by CraigB » Sat Jul 24, 2021 11:22 am

Good afternoon everyone,

I was hoping that someone would be so kind as to offer me some advice, please.

Here is the current scenario: I (South African) married my Scottish wife and moved to Scotland in 2009 on a spousal visa. I completed all the necessary steps at the time (LIO test, ILR, ceremony at the council etc.) and have now been a full British citizen with a passport since roughly 2015? Perhaps 2014, I can't remember exactly. I have been living in the Canary Islands though since March 2020.

My daughter is a South African citizen and lives in Johannesburg. Is there any legal way for her to enter and live in the UK based on my British citizenship?

Many thanks in advance.

How old is your daughter?

You becoming British by naturalisation a few years ago, presumably after her birth, doesn't afford her any route based on your status.

Hi CR001,

Thank you firstly for your kind response.

My daughter is 20 years old and yes, I naturalised long after she was born.

Best regards

Only way is for her to find a visa she qualifies for in her own right unfortunately.

You should have brought her before she turned 18 as a child dependent if you could have proven sole responsibility.
