Child born abroad to a NOW British father

Post by Johannlondon1979 » Thu Jan 25, 2018 1:28 am

Hi.
My son was born in south america on 25 DEC 2007. The mother and I were not married at the time and the mother was also not married to anybody else at the time. Both our names feature on his birth certificate dated 25dec 2007.
As far as I understand he is entitled to citizenship,
However my question is.
At the time of his birth I was not a UK citizen.
I was working and living in the UK at that time
South African passport.
I have been living and working in the UK since 2006 until now and have been granted UK citizenship in 2017. I have also visited him every 2 years since his birth (for what its worth)
Please could somebody shed some light on my situation? Regards johann

Little or no help.

Unfortunately, he's not entitled to British citizenship based on your circumstances.

Thank you for your prompt response Vinny.
What other options would I be able to pursue in this case?
Would I be able to invite him to come and stay with me in the UK ?

It would be difficult for him to come and live with you on a permanent basis without his mother, unless you had sole responsibility, etc.

Fortunately the mother and I have a very good relationship.
The mother would grant sole responsibility to me
or accompany him if needs be.
Is there a specific visa or criteria that has to be met?
Thank you

If you and the mother are single, then consider marriage? Then both she and child may come to the UK under Appendix FM and live as a family.

Thank you Vinny.
It seems the natural thing to do and we have considered this.

I am currently Self Employed, Director of a LTD Company.
Am I correct in assuming 12 Months Bank Statements required Personal and Business Pay slips and so on?
£18,600;+ £3,800 for our Son.

I would have to submit April - April so this will take almost one and a half year ???
Are there any other options or suggestions available to us?

Regards
Johann
