Was anything mentioned on any of the other policies?

The rest of the conversation was regarding changing article 8 - right to family life - but very much in terms of people with criminal records and people that are already in the UK resisting deportation.

Nothing with regard to the "attachment to the UK" thing and no time frame was clear, though it sounded like the changes would be implemented immediately.

She did mention higher level English requirements too.

Is there any indication if the extended 5 year probationary period will be applied to those already in the UK on a two year probation, or will it only effect new applicants?

The telegraph article mentioned an announcement tomorrow - will that be an update of the requirement on the UKBA website, do you think?

Damian Green has been indicating for about 6 months that anyone already here on a spouse visa would still be able to apply for ILR under the old rules - 2 years, no threshold, etc.

They do seem to have changed their minds on a lot of things at the last minute, like the level of the threshold, but the last-minute changes seem to be good rather tham bad. So let's hope it's still the case. If they don't it's incredibly unfair, as people already here would have to pay for an extra visa in order to extend to meet the 5 year requirement ...

They have to give at least 21 days notice of any changes to the immigration rules but if they follow the same procedure as they have with other recent major changes to
e.g. Tier 4 and work visas, i think they will probably release statement of policy first and the statement of changes afterwards.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Does anyone know when they will finally release this information? It's been on the cards since the start if the year, but there is still no firm announcement from the Government about what the new requirements will actually be, and equally as important, when they will be introduced!

You have just said yourself there will be an announcement tomorrow. I am sure everything will be clearer then.

No link, because it's paywalled and I bought a paper copy. There isn't really anything else new in the article.

I rewound the interview on the show and what she says on the andrew marr show is that the higher standard english language test will be 'from next year'. that doesn't seem to apply to the salary requirement
Hoping to be reunited soon

A statement has been published here. However, all it says is that an oral statement will be made later.

If you have freeview or digital tv you should have BBC parliament as a channel - ministerial statements are on now. Home Sec should be next.

She's on now. Confirmed changes to take place from 9th July. Statement of intent to be published today. Statement of changes (where the new rules are set out in detail before parliament) to come later - these will have to come at least 21 days before 9th July.
