Would a marriage through a mutual acquaintance (friend, family member, marriage bureau etc...) introducing two families count as an arranged marriage?

I've sort of forgotten what an arranged marriage actually is! Maybe need a few more Bolly/Lolly -wood 3 hour extravaganzas to remind me ...
Watch a British rubbish called East is East. There is a scene in there where Mr khans best friends daughters have been invited to meet the boys for the first time........now that is what I called arranged marriage rather than bollywood crap you seem to watch :D :)

On the serious side an arranged marriage is where both parents do all the legwork for you to say yay or nay.

A love marriage is where you dont give a damn what the parents say and you do everything your self.

A Forced marriage is where you have been forced to marry against your will to someone you dont want to get married to.

Now all you have to decide is which one applys to you
Lol, I remember East is East: "Bastar Bitch!" :P

Thanks for your reply. For the record I don't watch Bolly or Lolly 8) I've just had an abusive childhood!

Is there any negativity associated with ticking the arranged marriage box? My mother did the running around for me, all I did was say 'Woohoo! Yeesss ppleeeaase!' Both me and the girl were happy - but no love marriage.
Well if you don't tick that box, and provide no evidence of pre-marriage contact then that will certainly raise an eyebrow

It's absolutely fine to say it is an arranged marriage. I had no pre-marriage contact with my wife and everything was fine.

Yes my wife got her passport back after 10 days.... and she is arriving tomorrow evening..

there was no involvement from MP or Solicitors.. it was just me chasing them...
Hi there, you need to email UKVisaSection.PakistanSettlementEnquiries@fco.gov.uk

Supply your spouse passport number, appeal reference number, name, date of birth and state who you are in the email. Equally email appeals.islamabad@fco.gov.uk with the same details above and stress the fact you have not heard anything....

good luck

Irf
I emailed the first address you provided late last night and this morning I got the following reply:

Thank you for your e-mail. Your wife's application has been decided as of 26/03/2010. You will be contacted in due course via the Visa Application Centre.

Thank you,

I had the same question not so long ago - u need to put a figure that leaves enough for you and your spouse.

100 per week as per law x 4 weeks = 400 x 2 persons = 800
Bro can I ask why ' x 2 persons'? You're required to have £101 left over per week, but thats ALL you need after YOUR expenses. So you do not need to x 2

Zak.
Billo - can you remind of the calculation pls...

Salaam all.

Oh how I was envious of members typing this message:

Application lodged – 03/03/2010
Status changed - 31/03/2010
Passport picked up – 01/04/2010
(Mind you, it is April Fools Day :P)

But on a serious note, I would like to thank the members on here for advice and guidance (except for batley khan who specifically asked for dua)
Anyhows I’m still around, I’m by no means an expert but I’m here to help anyone who has any questions that I know the answers to.

Regarding current processing times, it took them 28 days for my application which was lodged in the Mirpur VAC.

Zak.

Thanks everyone. I'll make sure I specify exactly what documents I included, as my solicitor added details of an appeal regarding third party accomodation which would be useful for quite a few people.

Also, Even though I did have traditional itemised billing (a minute a day or so), I credited my wifes phone. So even though we talked an hour a day it cost next to nothing, and it left a paper trail (and obviously the ECO was satisfied).

I'm at work right now but I'll get on to it when I get home.

Zak.

Zak's right, it's just £101 per week for both of you, not £101 x 2.

And Congratulations Zak - That's awsome news

Great stuff however if your spouse does not hear anything next week then email again telling them your spouse had not received any contact from VAC. This is what i did and my wife received a call from islamabad office advising her to submit her passport to gerry office as her visa has been cleared.

good luck

It's absolutely fine to say it is an arranged marriage. I had no pre-marriage contact with my wife and everything was fine.

Update: my wife got her passport in 7 days, cost 4000PKR on the urgent serivce. Some dumb yardy asked her to adjust her hijab to reveal her ears for the photo!

Edit: Reason I find that annoying is that it isn't a condition for a passport photo and I know plenty of people who have passports with photos with no ears showing.

Thanks Suhaib for your commnets.

As regards your query,I disagree with you that fellas on a good wack get their visa than those who just scrape enough to manage on. All cases are dealt on with date by date basis( meaning you can never jump teh queue in getting the ECO to deal with your cases)

It all depends on whether you meet the rules of the visa that you are applying for. It is always that a well thought out and prsented application stands a better chance of suceeding than one that has papers missing or seem dodgy.

If you want to know more of how to suceed with your application , look at the some of the do's and donts on page 217 of this post.

That will give you a good idea of how to suceed :D

You still aint heard anything? Ye perhaps the VAC makes a diff, but I would have thought I'd be a day behind you as my application had to be forwarded to Islamabad.

Like I said, you should be sorted by Wednesday though. lol @ ticket prices, ye my mrs got in just in time. To many brits back in Pakistan lol.

Also, I think you've misunderstood about the fast track. The member who was posting this message was probably refering to applying for the passport. I don't think they would want an extra 40 quid to speed up the visa process when they're charging £800 as standard lol.
