Spouse visa extension question

Post by UtterlyBrilliant » Sat Sep 05, 2020 10:35 pm

Hi all, hope everything is well

Just a quick (paranoid) question. I'm soon scheduled to apply for the extension of my wife's visa (she arrived in the uk on a standard spouse visa for 2.5 years). Will I need to provide documents for the 6 months prior to renewing or over the whole period the initial visa was valid? I was under the impression it was for 6 months, but after a recent conversation with a friend, I'm not so sure anymore. I can't find appropriate info online either, it just covers what the requirements are (I.e. £18600 a year), not the period thats covered.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

What documents did you have in mind for those six months?

Have a look here to get an idea of what you may need to provide.

Thanks korekt

Sorry, I just read it back and haven't worded it well at all (it's been a long day).

I haven't sorted them as yet as I have a bit of time to play with, but documents include bills (with our names on them), GP letters, correspondence from phone providers, bank etc. For these I'm not too fussed, as I've collected everything, and see no harm in submitting it all (not as consistent as a wage slip etc so hopefully won't confuse the ECO, though I guess that shouldn't be underestimated!)

My initial question related specifically to the financial requirement. Will I be asked to show a record of my employment from initial visa approval to renewal date, or just the 6 months prior to renewal? My concern is because I changed jobs during that period, and haven't hung on to my wage slips until recently thinking I'll only need to save (or request) the slips closer to the date. I've been in my current job for a year or so now (another few months to go until renewal too), so if its for the whole period, I'll need to request wage slips from my old employer (first time around they were really slow at this so I don't want to have to wait again)... and possibly employer letter from both?

No worries.

For the financial requirement, just the wageslips for the 6 months prior, bank statements of the account the wages were paid into to cover the same period, and employer letter.
The last wageslip should be no older than 28 days to the date of application.

As evidence of cohabitation, if in joint names, you will need 6 documents from at least 3 sources every 4 or 5 months for the 2 years prior to the date of application.

Or if in individual name, then 12 documents (6 for each individual).

So 1 joint-named document = 2 individual documents (1 for each partner).
