Spouse Visa from abroad - Accommodation requirement issue

Post by Yohara » Wed May 31, 2023 9:21 am

Hi all,

I am a UK citizen currently living in Ireland with my (non-EEA) husband. He is a doctor and has been working in Ireland for the past 5 years. I am currently on Maternity leave with our first child but have quit my job just before starting my leave.

We would like to relocate to the UK next year, we satisfy all the requirements for application for Spouse Visa apart from the accommodation requirement. As we are currently living in Ireland, what would be the best way to do this?

As I am currently not working, renting would be hard. My parents house is too small for us to join them. I have a friend who owns a 3 bedroom house, who would be happy for us to lodge with her until we find a more permanent solution.

"If the applicant resides with a family member, he or she may consider providing a letter from the family member confirming the basis on which they can reside at the property"

my question is would the same apply if I used my friend instead of a family member? or is there any other solution that could work for us?

Many thanks for any advise in advance.

How will you meet the financial requirements for a spouse visa if you are unemployed?

Has your husband looked to see if he could get a Skilled Worker visa?

Yes, we did look into that and although he does qualify, he would only be able to work in a service provider capacity. For the specific fellowship and training that he would like to apply he would need a visa that would allow him more flexibility, hence why we wanted to apply for the spouse visa.

Do you have at least £62,500 held for a minimum of 6 months?
