Taking my South African born baby to UK

Post by Scotty » Mon Mar 30, 2015 10:05 am

Hi
I am British. My wife South African. My 15 month old daughter was born here in South AFrica.
In 8 weeks we are moving back to UK.
My wife has a settlement visa.
What visa do I need for my baby?
I have no time to get her a British Passport.
Thanks anyone...

Apply of for a Certificate of entitlement to Right of Abode, if you obtained your Citizenship by means other than descent.

A British Citizen cannot qualify for Settlement visa, as they are excluded from the restriction in the 1971 Act.

I was born in the UK.

If you were born in the UK before 1983 or you're British otherwise than by descent, your child is British and you need to follow Obie's advice as above.

Okay, I see. Apologies for my hastiness
Since my departure for the UK is in 8 weeks, do I have the time to get a certificate?
Your help(s) is much appreciated.

In my opinion a COE is more quicker to process than any other settlement application.

I understand that right to abode certificate goes into the passport. Experts please correct me if wrong.
Op's minor child may have South African passport in this case.

That is very correct.

It is endorsed on the British Citizen's other passport.
