wise to change spouse name or not? what docs and processing time for BRP update?

Hello all

I need to decide one important point here as my spouse's passport is approaching renewal soon. we have option to either change the the surname or keep it as it is.
what is best in long run?
does it matter anyway?
and we need to know the pros and cons accordingly.

second thing is
On the passport, even if we keep the original name, the father's name will be replace by the husband name on the passport so in that case do we still have to update the BRP? given that BRP does hold your father or husband name??


3rd Question:
What docs usually required to update the BRP? do we have to submit everything again just like at the time of spouse visa?

Changing maiden name with married name (husband's surname) isn't necessary and a lot of people don't choose to do that because by doing so you will have to get updated your new name on all of your previously gained qualifications, experience letters, diplomas and reference letters which although aren't needed for visa purposes but for job and other purposes. Its not a bad idea to keep existing maiden name while adding the husband's name in replace of father name when renewing passport & national identity card (it mostly happens in south Asia). In that case there is no need to update BRP as the name is not changing.
