Hello,
I came to uk on hsmp and I have a 3 year extension till dec 2012.
My first entry in the UK was 2 months after the date my visa began. So technically I dont qualify for a PR as I am short of 2 months and I will have apply for extension.
Given, a chance that Tories will tweak extension/PR law for people like me (not protected by HSMP judicial review and short of 5 year stay), is it worth applying for extension right now?
I understand we cannot predict future policy of the government but given that they can do it and there will be people affected, is it worth trying to extend now?
Replies from senior members are appreciated as this could really be beneficial for the affected as the change in policy will be swift.
-thanks

With last extension granted in December 2009, what reason do you think you'll give UKBA for considering another extension application more than two and half years before the expiry of your current leave?

One valid reason is ease of getting a mortgage if you have 3 years to expiry, this is as per few estate agents on high street.

I agree but its way too early and might expect an outright rejection because of time remaining...and losing your £££ in the process.
you can still get a mortgage with your visa...don't reason out that you require it for mortgage application but the real reason is really the uncertainty of future changes...

So as time passes and your (existing) leave becomes less than 3 years you'll apply for extension again and again to ensure that you have "3 years" valid leave all the time ... in order to secure a mortgage?
And do you think UKBA will entertain your extension application (more than 2 years in advance) because high street vendors aren't offering you mortgages and/or because you fear Tories coming to power?
regards

I think you can give direction to many people in this forum by applying 2 years in advance! .... :)
