Impact of a criminal record on my application

Would I be granted a UK Tier 2 visa if I have a blemish on my record - I have a conviction for possession of a prohibited drug in Australia. My employer and I meet all other criteria but I wonder if an application will be turned down due to this issue.
Any advice or information appreciated.
