Impact of moving to the US at DIMIA stage

Post by McKain » Sun Nov 19, 2006 9:51 pm

Hello all, new member here.

I'm an IT person and my visa application for Australia (Skilled - Independent, Class BN, subclass 136) is currently at the DIMIA stage, following favourable skills assessment by the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

As relieved as I am about this, I'm facing an interesting problem now. I have a valid H1B visa (it's a temporary worker's visa for the US) with another company in the US, and that company wants me to relocate from India to their US office.

I'm motivated to do this for the simple reason that a year or two of working experience in the US would do good to my resume, if and when I finally arrive in Australia.

However, I have several concerns and questions about this:

1) If I do move to the US, Should I inform DIMIA about my change of employer and change of country of residence?

2) Could moving to the US reduce my chances of success for a PR visa from DIMIA?

3) If I do move to the US and assuming DIMIA approves my case, will I be able to meet the medical requirements in the US and would the Australian diplomatic facilities in the US be able to subsequently stamp the proof of my visa?

As you can probably tell, I only care about the opportunity to do professional work in the US because it would be helpful for me in Australia, and I'm very sensitive about how this could impact my Australian immigration case. I simply won't move to the US if there's any chance that it could hurt my Australian immigration case!

Any advice, insights, feedback, very welcome.
