Important enquiry about Schengen Visa rules

Hi everyone,
I have a passport which is valid till mid October.I have applied for a multiple entry Schengen visa for France from March 26th 2007.
In the french consulate website it is specified that the passport should be valid for 3 months more than the vaidity of the Schengen visa.Since multiple entry visa is valid for 90 days over 6 months,am I eligible for multiple entry Schengen visa.My passport is only valid for 6.5 months from the day of my trip i.e March 26th.

Please note that I am buying an annual multitrip travel insurance.
