Incorrect date entry to South Africa stamped in passport

Hi,

Any advice would be really appreciated. My fiance is here in the UK on an ancestry visa, he's due to renew it next March and we're getting married in June, when he'll then be applying for ILR. The issue is that he's looked at the entry stamps in and out of the country in his passport. All the UK stamps match up and are correct. However the entry in to South Africa was dated 12/04/07 which should have in fact been 12/06/07 so puts him in South Africa two months earlier than he was. His worry is in applying for his renewal of visa if he puts down the actual dates he entered South Africa and came back to the UK they don't match up with the one stamp in the passport. But if he lies to go along with the wrong date stamp then it's fraudulant. He is well within his 180 days allowed out of the country in 5 years (only 45 spent out in 5 years) and he also has proof from his employer here in the UK that he was in fact working when according to the date on his passport he should have been in South Africa and he has pay slips, bank statements, credit card statements (showing items bought in the UK) and a car service in the UK, all of which proove that he was here.

Please could you tell me how we can get this incorrect stamp righted before his application next year?

I would think that the UKBA would check departure and re-entry dates in their own system rather than looking at the stamps in the passport. So it is important to make sure the departure and re-entry dates given on the application form will match up with the UKBA system.

But to be on the safe side I would include, with all the other supporting documentation, a letter pointing out that there is a stamp from South Africa in the passport ,which is incorrectly dated and state that he was in the UK during that time. Also include a signed and stamped letter from the company, on a company letterhead, confirming that he was at work in the UK during the time of the incorect SA stamp. It cant hurt to be over cautious

Definitely list the departure and entry dates as they really were, as UKBA will try to match up dates listed in the application form with what is in their system.

The issue is that the UK does not have exit border controls and therefore won't know whether the date in the passport is correct or not. The only thing the UKBA can rely on is a passport entry stamp outside the UK.

To be honest, I suspect this might happen more often than you think as it has happened to me before as well (also an entry into South Africa). I suggest using the correct date and making a note that the date in the passport is actually incorrect. Either way, he is well within the rules, even if they use the date in the passport. As long as you briefly note that the date in the passport is incorrect, there shouldn't be an issue.
