Indefinate leave to remain

Post by Ash1 » Tue Jan 27, 2009 6:29 pm

Dear All,

I am a medical doctor working as a consultant since 2006 and came to the Uk in the Sept of 1998 and immediately went into a training position on a permit free visa which was extended over the years until i got into a permanent job at which point the trust applied for a work permit.

My passport along with other valuables were stolen in Paris in 2004 and hence i lost my passports prior to that event.

I applied for indefinate leave to remain on the grounds of 10 years legal stay in the country and provided as documentation for the period of 1998 to 2004 all original payslips, letters of employment from various NHS hospitals,P60S, and a letter from National Insurance showing unbroken contributions, photocopies of my old passport which show serial visa stamps and a photocopy of the french poilce complaint with an engilsh translation

its been almost 5 months since the application was accepted but am still waiting to hear of a decision as i believe it now is a matter of the discretion of the secretory of state?

Is there any thing i can do to hasten the process?...........am getting really frustrated.

Best wishes

Ash

Hi Ash1,

It can take a long time - anything upto 1-2 yrs aswell. My mum's ILR application took a total of 13 months.

You can get your MP involved & that may help. But apart from that theres not much you can do.

Best of luck.

Your case seems straight forward. If you did in person, you could have got your passport back on the same day! but never mind
