Does your degree meet the B1 requirement?

I am recently registered to the forum. But I have been reading this forum for quite some time now.

I have been having this question below, but could not find a firm answer to it. I am going to apply for naturalisation this year. I have got a bachelor and master's degrees from a non-english speaking country in Western Europe. When I tried the PBS calculator, it turns out that it gave me 30 points for my Bachelor study and 35 points for my Master's study. However, it gave 0 point for English language in both cases although both studies were fully taught in English.

My understanding is that HO require me to prove the following:
1. My degree / qualification is recognised by UK NARIC as equivalent to UK bachelor's degree; and
2. My degree was taught in English
.....
My question, could I use the following documents to prove the 2 points above?
1. Print out from PBS calculator (which is fed by the UK NARIC themselves) showing that I am awarded 30 / 35 points for the degree. This is to prove point 1 above.
2. Certificate or official letter from my University stating that the study was fully taught in English. This is to prove point 2 above.

Therefore, I will not need to use UK NARIC services (at all) to provide UK NARIC English Language Assessment nor UK NARIC Statement of Comparability.

Can I ask how do we claim 20 points for the degree? When I use points based calculator, I see 20 points for salary and 10 points for english. I donot see at any place '20 (or any) points for degree' as is required for the ILR application. (ILR application requires 20 points for degree and 10 points for english). I have also raised this question in another forum

You are not doing something right. It works for me when I try on the points calculator. Try again patiently going through the steps

I can do it if I select tier 1 - but not for Tier 2.

You can select T 1 G as well in point base calculator your qualification should award more than 20 points in qualification section and 10 points in English
language section

Thanks - yes when I select (to find out how many points my degree gets me) T1G, I can see the points for degree.

However, I am applying for ILR under tier 2. Do you think people at PEO would accept Tier 1 G printout for Tier 2 based application?

I got a lot of information on that thread so I felt it was my duty to register and post my findings.
I sent an email to KnowledgeOfLifePolicyQueries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk to ask them about my situation.
My wife has been my dependant on Tier 1 and she has a degree from abroad.
Her degree can me batched on Points Calculator but I was all confused about the 20 points degree requirement + 10 points english requirement.

I was told that if you wish to use points calculator to show your degree matches UKNaric then use Tier 1 General with a date between Nov 2008 to Dec 2009. In fact the date does not matter as I asked for further clarification as my Tier 1 started in 2010.

Basically you are not accessing calculator to obtain points but to obtain NARIC confirmation of the degree. Therefore whatever date produces the 20 points for the degree and 10 points for english will be accepted.

I have been searching to clarify the points requirement for English Language on Points based calculator i.e. whether you need just 10 points for English language or also need 20 points for qualification. I found some information in the following thread which talks about getting 20 points.

I plan to go next week for my PEO appointment and the issue is that my wife's has got a master's degree but I do not have the degree. And her bachelor's degree only scores 10 points for English and scores 0 points for qualification. The date of entry was between Nov 2008 to Dec 2009 as suggested by Dev1n. Does that mean that it would not be accepted for English language.

A quick response would be highly appreciated.

You need both, the date shouldn't matter. I used 2014 for my citizenship application.

At least 20 points for the degree ==> This proves your degree is the equivalent of a UK degree
10 points for English ==> This proves the level of English

UK degrees automatically meet these requirements, so where is the degree from?

The degree is from India.

I used Apr 2012 as I got know reading the other threads that between Apr 2009 and Apr 2010, PBS calculator was not awarding points for Bachelor degree. When I used Apr 2012, I can see 30 points for degree and 10 points for English.

I hope that this should suffice, got really tensed about and have been browsing this forum for last couple of hours.
I must say that this forum has been such a great source of information.

I had the same problem with dates as I got Tier 1 in 2010 and according to rules if you obtained Tier 1 in before Apr2010 bachelor degree is worth 0.

Thats why I emailed them and they told be the dates are not important and to use any date that will show the points in the calculator. So just use the dates that produce the points for you and you should be fine.

I have a Masters of Business Adniistration Degree from University of the Punjab, Lahore , Pakistan.

I have letter from University stating that the medium of instruction was English

I applied for to UK Naric for Satement of Comparibility and English Language Assessment.

Statement of Comparibilty:
Is Considered Comparable to British Bachelor (Ordinary) degree standars

English Language Assessment
The level of the English Language for the above degree course does not meet the requirements of CEFR level C1

UKBA requirement is minimum CEFR Level B1

I rang UK Naric and the customer representative said that have contract with UKBA abd compare it with CEFR Level C1 asked them to compare ot with Level BI and they siad they cant do it


I dont need to meet the English Language requirement for ILR as I fall under HSMP JR
but on the safer side I am planning to provide Statement of Comparibility and the Letter from the University stating the medium of instruction was English

For natuirilazation I have no idea.

Please any one from the same country faced situation like this.
