ILR postal applications (excluding 10/14 yr.)

I have been following the timelines here , a little surprised to see that I have received a request for biometric data within about 2 weeks time. I had applied for ILR (SET(O)) on Feb 20th and received the biometric request letter yesterday (Mar 7th). Finally has the process speeded up? Hope so.

I am still waiting for someone who has been approved recently and does the letter just state what I mentioned and no words of 'approval' or 'success' etc instead they mentioned 'BRP will be posted in next 7 days.

I'm wondering why they don't clear the backlogs first before starting to process new applications.... Do they just pick the applications in random?

I believe once they opened the case, they would try to close within 14 days. I have the same timeline as yours and was asked further document to be sent. UKBA received it on 25.02.13. Looks like they will wait for 14 days to pass (grace time given to submit the docs) or process it right away away depending on the case worker.

Mine only took 3 days to process, it was super fast.

6. Letter (date 12/02/2013) received 15/02/2013 requesting further documentary proof because i changed my address.
7. Further documentary proof sent with covering letter 15/02/2013 (received by UKBA 18/02/2013)
8. ILR Approval Letter (dated 11/02/2013) received 21/02/2013 by normal post, "To Be Signed for"
9. Biometric Residence Permit received today too - dated 19/02/2013

It is blatantly obvious UKBA don't have the system that works to clear the backlog first.

What system do they have? A simpler one called "piling 'em up".

They don't seem to digitalize the applications, so they all go around in the form of envelopes, or binders. They arrive at the home office and being put together into a "pile". Now and then the pile would cause an avalanche simply because of the weight of the envelopes, or because someone tries to pull out the oldest envelope from the bottom. Once all envelopes collapse UKBA civil servants rush to re-pile them before anyone sees the mess, and the order of the envelopes get mixed up.

Now that's what happens at the UKBA.

.........I am kidding, of course. But it just feels like a real story to me at the moment.

I can't agree more...

My father-in-law had a minor stroke two weeks ago and had to be admitted to the hospital immediately. Thank God it was only a minor attack and he can leave the hospital after three days.

But all the while, we're all worrying over here about his situation. If the situation had become worse, we wouldn't be able to go and visit him without our passports with us, especially within a short notice. It would be too late....

I am so sorry to hear your in-law's health condition.
Well at least he is ok now!

It is too harsh a system that UKBA does not provide a expedite procedure for bereavement or similar. I hear that it takes anything like 6 weeks for the passport to come back in such cases at the moment.

I will be doing petition or campaign after my application concludes for UKBA to improve their performance.

After applying as the unmarried partner I received a letter requesting my marriage certificate 4 months from application date (18 Oct.) On Friday I received a call from UKBA asking to confirm my address to resend my BRP. I was given a tracking number for DX I asked about my passport and documents and was told, not sure about the whereabouts but will get back to me. I'm still waiting. I called DX this morning and they said my BRP was sent to my old address a month ago. If this is the case, I'm sure my passport was sent there too. I have a feeling it's been lost! When I changed address I informed UKBA. All other correspondence was sent to my current address, so not sure how this mess happened!

I called UKBA today (finished 6 months and 2 weeks). I tried since morning and they were just disconnecting the call till 4.00 p.m. I managed to get through to them at 4.20 after about 13 minutes wait to hear that the application is still under process and no decision has been made. Can't say by when but just asked me wait. Welcome to the modern day slavery. We paid money to be slaves I think

Biometric Done - 04/12/12

I want to call my parents from india next month but my passport is still with home office as I applied ILR on Tier 1 general migrant. Its gonna be 6 month on 25 march 2013.

My concern is that would I still be able to call my parents from India as my status is still legal on tier 1 general visa.

If I can call my parents, Do they need to fill family visitor form or general visitor form. What documents from my side should i send to prove my status.

I would really appreciate if someone can reply me asap in detail as I want to send the documents as quickly as possible to my parents.

what i know is,,,you are legal upto what ever time UKBA took to process application

but to sponsor some body it is new thing,,,,you can sponsor but i suggest better to wait for ILR than case will be more strong

I had thought that the Settlement Checking Service would speed things up but mine seems to fall in line with other set(m) applications, both using the SCS and not. I will now start to seriously work on petition and campaign for UKBA to improve the service standard. In the meantime wishing you all the best.

If you have any reason that you need to leave the country in next 12 months DON'T USE THE POSTAL METHOD!! And if you do postal, DON'T EXPECT IT BACK BEFORE 6 MONTHS, that's how long it takes for them to pile our applications.

There's no point in complaining without doing something yourself, so be proactive in campaign and petitions IF you can join in such things.
