Need help please on ILR long residency question.

Post by nwrmrc » Mon Jun 03, 2019 6:00 pm

Hello everyone I have a question that I need help to answer.

Me and my parents entered applied for asylum in the UK in august 2010, I was aged 9 and my birthday is also in august. We were granted 2.5 years leave to remain in 2016 (I believe), which we have renewed once for another 2.5 years.

My question is when will I be able to apply for ILR?

I am asking this because I have found some information online that states 18-24 year olds (I am not 18 yet but I will be in august) who have lived more than half their lives in the UK can apply for an ILR due to it being it “unreasonable” to expect you to leave the UK. In August I would have lived more than half my life in the UK.

Is this true and would it be applicable to me? because I only have a 2.5 leave to remain and I have only been in the UK legally in the past 4 or so years.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

You can apply for ILR once you have completed 5 years after your asylum was approved. As you said that was approved in 2016, you can apply no sooner than 2021.
