Hi I completed my 5 years as a refugee I applied for the ilr I was wondering after getting ILR can I apply for citizenship
Just to add I was overstayed almost 3 years when I got my 5 years brp as a refugee
Thanks
Hello Showpower
After having ILR for 1 year you can apply for citizenship .If you tell them that you haven't been working during overstay & ask for discretion .If you provide proof who was supporting you during overstay period e.g family or friends with documents like bank statements & if not possible then supporting letters from them stating they have supported you ,this would stop HO thinking you have been working illegally hence you get more chances of discretion being applied in your favour.
Just overstaying isn't enough ground for HO to refuse citizenship & it can be challenged if refused as HO guidance clearly states if overstay is the only adverse factor in someone's good character then it can be disregarded.
Good luck ,I think if you can provide above mentioned you would be successful provided if your caseworker is a nice person. A nice caseworker doesn't mean they don't refuse applications they do but being fair & being fair with you is the grant of citizenship.Another thing it is rare to have nice caseworkers.

Hi everyone. I am going to apply for ILR on Set (P)online form. I don't have any penalty points on my Driving licence. I have totally 5 ticket (1 parking ticket and 4 bus lane ticket) but I paid them on time nothing outstanding. Should I have to disclose them?
Please I urgently need help. Thank you

Afternoon Eveyone,

After reading silently for years, i’ve Decided to make my first post.

I’d like to share my timeline for my recent SET (P) ILR application.

Please see below:

Current refugee leave to remain expires: March 11, 2021
SET (P) application made: February 6, 2021
Next available biometrics appointment available which I booked: February 13, 2021 (it cost me £135)
ILR successful email received: February 17, 2021
Biometric residence permit received: February 22, 2021

I made a solo application and the documents I submitted are as follows:
Copies of the last 3 months payslips
Copy of my Conventional travel document ( I don’t have my home country’s passport because that was submitted to the home office previously and haven’t been returned).
Copy (front and back) of my resident permit
Copy of the printed and signed declaration form you will see at the end of your online application.

I submitted my biometrics on a Saturday and received my ILR decision the following Wednesday morning. It took only 3 days from submission of my biometrics to receive a decision and 3 weeks before my refugee leave to remain expired.

I have now submitted my application for my new conventional travel document, which was done one week ago.

Congrats to all those who have received their ILR and good luck to those of you still waiting for your decision.

BRP Received out of no where!

Here is my entire application timeline:

Leave to Remain ends: 28/04/2019
I am supposed to apply: 28/03/2019
I applied online: 21/01/2019
HO acknowledgement letter: 22/01/2019
Biometrics taken: 31/01/2019

Progress email #1: 21/02/2019
Progress email #2: 21/03/2019
Progress email #3: Didn't receive (supposed to be on 21/04/2019)

BRP DX courier Email: 16/05/2019
BRP Received: 16/05/2019

Total waiting time: 3 months and 25 days (or 3.85 months)
Waiting time from the date I was supposed to apply: 1 month and 19 days (or 1.65 months)
Hello,
I have a client who is in a similar position, but she is worried as she had used her national passport. Also, i notice you mention embassy..the Home Office does not process any application in collaboration with the embassy of your country of origin. Especially in protection cases.
Note: you are not supposed to apply one month before your leave expires, they will start processing at that time, but you are allowed to apply 90 days before it expires (only accepted for settlement applications based on the settlement route) that's why your application was not refused for applying early as you were still within the 90 day window.

QUESTION for my client: any idea about traveling on a national passport during the 5 years ? will that affect the outcome in your opinion ? thanks

Hello Everyone!

I have been a silent observer of this page for over 2 years.Thought of sharing my timeline with everyone.

Applied for Set p on 14-12-2020
Biometric done 06-01-2021
Approval email 13-01-2021

It took under a month for HO to approve my ilr. Very straightforward application, so i would say apply it yourself rather than paying a solicitor.

Also No dependent, It was a solo application!

Goodluck to everyone waiting.
=Congratulations..that was really quick..sometimes its' quicker when single
Did you still keep your national passport while in the UK ?
Did you receive an email from the home office with your case ID just after you applied ? or just the Sopra email that your application was submitted (after fingerprints)

Thanks !

Hello everybody, I had been reading this forum for about 3 years, trying to get a good knowledge of everybody experience´s to get ready for my application.

I did my application last November and today I got the reply from HO with a positive answer :D
I want to say thank you to everybody that takes time for posting and share their experience I give us hope

Good luck everybody may good bless you all. Below you can see my TIME LINE

BRP expired: 21/12/2020
Apply Online: 19/11/2020
Appointment for Documents and finger prints: 12/12/2020
APPROVAL EMAIL 12/02/2021

For anyone wondering what document were need it:

-copy old national passport ( HO sent them to me after the application for asylum was done 5 years ago)
-copy of council tax ( for profs of residence and not being away from the Uk in the past 5 years)
-birth certificate ( for a child born here in the UK)
-BRP
-also I cover letter from my solicitor explaining why they believe my case was favourable for being successful

Note: if you don't have the money to pay a solicitor you can get help through an AID found but you need to have Universal credit or any benefit, I did pay for mine but a friend of my got some help with hi's but guys the application is really easy to fill you won't need a solicitor is a waste of money I was charge £1200 for me and family. I recommend getting a solicitor if you think you really need it. ( if you have any criminal offences or something like that)
Hello, and thanks for sharing the timeline and docs
Question: at what stage did you realise they need all these documents ? from the beginning? or did they contact you later ?

Thanks

Congrats Ben,
Q1: Did you get an email from UKVI on the day you applied ..with your case ID ? or just the email with the long case ref number starting UKVI_1ABCD123456789 ?
Q2: Did you get update emails every month ? were they dated exactly one month after your application date or fingerprint date ?
Q3: at what stage did your MP send the letter ?
Q4: what documents was it showing for you to submit (usually Sopra Steria will have a list of the required docs to take to your fingerprint appointment)
Q5: How did you get the approval ? by email ? or letter

many thanks, it would be very helpful if you could reply

I actually used a lawyer and he requested for a lot of staff..evidence for work..school..my life in the uk actually.. he evidence why home country is not safe for me, explaining on a cover letter..
