Additional information: My initial, Extension and ILR applications were all based on employed jobs. But I am also registered as a self employed as I do a small job.

Advice to self employed/Limited company directors , Keep all of your paper worker in order. I was not expecting this as I did not claim any thing on self employment but yet have to explain all .

4. Employment contract

My appointment was at 9:30 and we were allowed in at 9:00. Remember, Croydon PEO has a strange Elevator policy. Unless you need special assistance (buggy, wheelchairs) you'll be made to climb to the 3rd floor by stairs. The security guy, who was playing mordor's gatekeeper took pride in shouting at people who tried to access the lifts.

Never mind, once you reach the 3rd floor, the receptionist looked at our passports, form, payment receipt and gave us a token (ours was 150). Then, we were asked to sit in the cafe area. To my surprise, the facilities at the Cafe area were fantastic. Plenty of seats, there was a small child play area too with a couple of toys, TV running cbeebies and baby changing facilities.

The displays show a running status of the token numbers and there were plenty of displays everywhere. Within 10 mins, we were called to submit the application. The submission officer entered our case in the system, put all our docs in a folder and directed us to submit the biometrics in the far end waiting area.

There were a few families with kids ahead of us, so the wait for biometric was a bit long (approx 20mins). Once our biometrics were done, our documents were collected and we went back to the cafe waiting area. Note that we didn't interact with the actual casework until this point.

We could see the case numbers being decided rather quickly. Within 45mins, our token showed under 'Ready for collection'. We went to collect it as soon as our number was announced on the intercom. No questions asked, no interaction with the caseworker, all done within 2 hours.

I just wanted to share a personal opinion. Days before the appointment I was a bit nervous after reading all these posts about tax issues and rejections. I've been an honest taxpayer and always filed the taxes/SA returns in time when I was self employed. In my own experience of dealing with immigration for last 9 years, the Home Office doesn't aim to talk to you with unreasonable excuses. They don't have a personal agenda. Unless you have gamed the system intentionally or unintentionally, you have no need to worry.

There will always be some elements in the society, who resort to unfair means and make things difficult for everyone else. Some end up in this situation unintentionally and as pointed by the mods time to time, ignorance doesn't mean innocence.

Best of luck for your applications.

Hi All,

By the grace of God, we (self + dependent spouse and child) had our ILR approved at Croydon PEO on 5th March 2016. I am a Limited Company Director so was quiet tensed about the process but thankfully everything went on smooth. At Croydon PEO there was no Self Employed Questionnaire that is being asked in other PEOs. Here is my experience at the PEO:

1. Appointment Time - 10AM 5th March at PEO Croydon
2. Reached PEO - 9.30AM, allowed inside after the security checks
3. Token number given : 9.45 AM (token number was 150, which meant I was the 50th person to enter the building)
4. Case Registration - 10.50 AM at counter 10. The wait was longer this time compared to my extension, may be because of the fact that it was a Saturday and there were less staff. Lady who registered was very friendly. She saw that I had lots of documents as I was Ltd Company Director and had everything organized well in my own folder so she said I can submit my own folder instead of using their folder.
5. Biometrics completed at counter 35- 11.40 AM
6. Case went under consideration - 1.20 PM (for 1hr 40 mins case was awaiting consideration, may be because it was lunch time). I was very stressed when the case was being considered, but I guess all of us go through this. There were some token numbers (154, 157, 155) after my number (150 was mine) which were completed before mine, this got me worried as I started to think something may have gone wrong.
7. Case completed - 3 PM. Called to counter 44. Caseworker took 1hr 40 mins to decide my case. Lady at the counter congratulated me, what a big relief it was. Checked the details for biometrics card and was told the card will arrive in 10 days. Overall it took 5.5 hours at PEO from start to finish.

Now coming to the documents I submitted:
SET(O) application form
Payment confirmation sheet
2 Photos each for main and dependents with names written at the back
Passport (old and new) – main applicant
Passport (old and new) – dependent spouse
Passport (old and new) – dependent child
BRP for main and 2 dependents

Age (20 points)
Original passport

Qualification (30 points) and English Language Proof:
Original Degree Certificate
Points Based Calculator showing qualification meets English Language Requirement (I have used Tier 2 General for the category as Tier 1 General has been removed from the calculator)
Letter from College confirming the degree was taught in English
IELTS Pass Certificate for spouse– Life Skills B1

Life in the UK test pass certificate for self and spouse

Maintenance Funds
Along with earnings proof for main applicant, 3 months’ salary slips for dependent spouse.
Original Term Deposit Advice from State Bank of India showing a deposit amount. The deposit has been held for over 2 years now and the balance has not gone below this amount at any point in the past 90 days. Not sure if this is required but included it anyway.
Letter from Statement Bank of India confirming the deposits held

Previous Earnings – 45 points (Previous UK experience 5 points)
Salary slips from Feb 2015 to Jan 2016 (in 2 months, the salary did not match the payslip as I had made a typo error while transferring money, payslip showed 883.33 and bank account showed 833.33. Had mentioned about this in the cover letter and also had a letter from accountant confirming this as underpayment. Not sure if these were considered as earnings but I had more than enough points even with these 2 months salary excluded.
Dividend vouchers - Stamped with my company seal and signed by me as the Director. Not stamped/signed by accountant as I had checked with UKVI and they had said one letter from accountant is sufficient and each dividend voucher need not be stamped by accountant
Letter from Accountant confirming the salary and dividend payments
Personal bank statements from HSBC showing the salary and dividend payments
Cover letter with Salary and dividend summary

Supporting Documents from Limited Company:
Incorporation Certificate
VAT Registration Certificate
VAT payments made in the previous 12 month period
Corporation Tax letter from HMRC for years 2013, 2014 and 2015
Business Bank Statements for the previous 12 months
Profit Loss Statements for 2015-2016 as the tax return for this year is not due until April 2016
Company Tax Returns for 2014-2015
Invoices for the past 12 months
Contract with client

Cohabitation documents
Joint Names
a. Bank Account Statements 24 months – Feb 2014 to Feb 2016
b. Annual Mortgage Statements dated Jan 2014, Jan 2015 and Jan 2016
c. Council tax bills dated March 2014, March 2015 and July 2015
Individual Names:
a. Electricity & Gas bills dated Sep 2015 and Jan 2016
a. Water bills dated May 2014, Nov 2014, May 2015 and Nov 2015
b. HMRC Tax Code letter and tax overview letter dated June 2015
Relationship Proof
a. Marriage Certificate
b. Birth Certificate for child with parents names

Absence Summary
Cover letter with a table showing absences, had only 3 absences with total number of days outside UK being 47 days. No letter from employer provided as I could not get one from my previous employer.
Boarding passes and itinerary for previous travels
Salary slip from previous employer to show salary credit for the month of travel when I was employed in perm job

PCN and FPN summary
Cover letter to decalre one PCN (parking ticket) for me and 2 FPNs (2 SP30 speeding tickets in the past 12 months) for my spouse. This was not an issue and I had selected 'No' for the criminal convictions question in the application form as PCN and FPNs are not considered criminal convictions. But I wanted to declare this information as I did not want to hide anything.

Documents that I carried with me but not submitted:
SA 100 tax return document for previous 3 years
Self Assessment statements for previous 3 years
Tax year overviews for previous 3 years
SA302 for previous 3 years (all returns filed on time and taxes paid on time)
Employment History from HMRC for previous 5 years
P60s for 4 out of 5 years
Previous extension (2 extns) salary slips and dividend vouchers
Previous Home office letters of approval

I hope this information is useful for other people who are planning to apply for ILR in the future.

By the grace of GOD my ILR Approved on PEO Belfast on 8 March 2013
And thanks for all of you who help and pray for me.
Special thanks to my parents, wife, laws and friends who prayed and had best wishes for me.

Category: Tier 1
Dependents: 0
Total fees paid: 1900
PEO: Belfast
Employment status: Director of a limited company
Out of UK absences: less than 180 in total
Earning Required Band = ( 35000 – 39999) = 20 Points
Tax affairs: SA returns filed on time , no discrepancies, no amendments. Corporation TAX Paid on time
Initial application Feb 2011
Employment + Self employment
Period claim (1 Feb 2010 to 31 Jan 2011)
Earning Claimed = 46415 on initial application
In this earning I had self employment income for period ( 6 April 2010 to 31 Jan 2011 ) £ 21240
But when I filed my final account my earning for period (6 April 2010 to 5 April 2011) was 11708
Because I made payments to 3rd parties and all was paid from business bank account
Advice from friends and immigration representative to file an amendment but I don’t find any solid reason to change this because it was genuine, submitted on time and tax was paid on time. I don’t want to change it for ambiguity and my earning for the period was still
£ 36883.00 so I decided I will fight it and it was self employment not salary or dividend. And tax period finish later so the figures can change for any reason but my turnover was more on tax return than HO just expenses increase about 9532 from HO.
I just explain because there are so many applicants who are scared so I am explained in details.

Overall experience was not smooth.

I supplied following documents in the begging of my application:

Application Payment Sheet
Cover Letter
Absence Letter
BRP with Valid Tier1(General) Leave to Remain
Applicant Passports -3
SET (O) Application form with 2 Photographs on Page# 9
UKBA Letter with Points Calculated for Leave to Remain under Tier 1 (General) of Point Base System
Lloyds Personal Bank Account Statements
Accountant Letter
MIHB Limited Employer Letter
MIHB Limited Payslip
MIHB Limited Dividend TAX Voucher
Certificate of incorporation
Life in the UK Test Pass Notification Letter
University of Degree of Master of Science
Applicant Documents Photocopies

Than after 5 minute called back and said she forgets to ask me about the questionnaire and I provide her extra documents.
Questionnaire was as another member explains was same like that with your all self employment and company director questions and asks if you had changed your self assessment if you was not happy with them and explain the changes you made or steps you taken to correct it.
After filling in the questionnaire I handed her
My 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12,2012-13 tax returns, SA302 payment made for tax years where I was self employed and corporation tax payments slips that I had paid on dividends or profit from company.
After 10 minutes announcement made for me to come on desk, case worker was very angry about not having my company accounts, I told him I didn’t submitted any accounts last time that’s not in the requirements its supporting documents. And I told him I don’t have those with me because year is still going on and they were provisional and accountant said you don’t need them
Then I ask him I got other documents shall I go and get them from waiting area than I grab my full file and handed her previous year company accounts and tax liability bill that due to pay in April 16. He said without this year account I am unable to process my application than he went and grabbed a sheet, he shown me how they assess the documents and what they need.
In that sheet it was clearly written in company director
1) (Salary Slips or Dividend Vouchers )
2) Personal bank statement
3) And in 3rd Colum it was supporting documents but not mandatory business bank statement, company accounts and invoices,
I told him they are not mandatory and if you need I had company bank statement he look on that and said yes you are right it’s not necessary I need to speak with my boss what he will say.
Then he said you submitted your tax documents for last years but we have direct access to HMRC and in HMRC there is no record for you.
I told him I had submitted the documents and they are genuine, I didn’t made them at home and all record is available in my HMRC account as well if you can let me use your computer I will open it for you on HMRC website. Than he had a smile and leave me and went to speak with his boss and not inform me about anything than I had a terrible time for 2 hours what he is going to do all windows shut.. Was not able to see where case worker is.
Thinking might be preparing refusal, no preparing Extra documents request, no if he need extra documents had given me letter in this time.
After 2 hours of conversation a window open and lady called me.
I ask her is it a good news or bad
She smiled and said its very good news your case is approved today.

Wish you all best of luck.
Need to prepare my wife and kid’s papers want to inform you guys as quick as I can sorry for delay.
As I always look on immigration board to read people experience.
I think it’s all from me and explained all aspect of my situation still if you have any question I will be happy to answer
Sorry if there are English mistakes typed in hurry
Very short time for wife and kids application

Category: Tier 1 general
Dependents: 1
Total fees paid: 3800
PEO: Solihull
Date of appointment : 5th march 2016
Employment status: Full time salaried employments
Out of UK absences: around 60 days

Documents Provided:

1. Cover letter (more of a document summary)
2. Employment letter (just as an additional doc)
3. salary slips
4. personal bank statements showing salary credits
5. LIUK certificates for both of us
6. Original Degree, PBS Printout awarding 10 points, letter from college stating degree was taught in english.
7. Original Degree, PBS Printout awarding 10 points (Dependent), letter from college stating degree was taught in english
8. Absence letters from employers
9. Cohabitation documents (marriage certificate original, council tax bills covering more than 2 yrs, tenancy agreements covering more than 2 yrs, joint account bank sts covering more than 2 yrs)
10. HMRC employment history letter (2010-15)
11. covering letter with details of the 3 fixed penalty notices received for speeding and related documents (In the form, i have put a note under section 8(B) that i have attached a covering letter and other docs related to the FPNs. I have ticked NO for all the options in section 7 of the form and did not mention anything about FPNs there.

Photocopies of all the above

Documents carried as backup but not submitted:
1. Original bundle of documents submitted for initial and extensions of my Tier 1 Application

My appointment was at 11:00 but we reached by 11:05, but still we were allowed. Less seating space but comfortable and friendly staff. Took the token but had to wait for an hr and then submitted the docs. I was asked to fill a form related self employment details. In 5 yrs i worked as a contractor only for 5mnths using an umbrella company who ran PAYE for me. But I got little worried and confused with the form and gave incorrect answers to most of the questions, however I clearly mentioned the details of my contract work in the comments section of that 2 page form. The declaration on the form says any incorrect info will be a offence, but surprisingly in my case no questions asked. Gave biometrics and waited for ~2hrs. Got a call to collect the docs at 2pm and thats it we got the ILR.
5mnths of my contract work, PBS printouts for KOLL, cohabitation docs and my FPNs did gave me a little stress during that 2hrs, but it was a great relief at the end. No questions asked and no interaction with case worker.

I would like to sincerely thank immigration boards and specially the moderators for their amazing advice and saving my money, which i thought of spending for getting letters from UK NARIC (~£250) for KOLL. I would also like to thank the fellow members who posted their experiences here. The post and the last comments of "unchained" gave a great confidence just before my appointment. Thank you guys, truly appreciate all your help. ----------------Your information is invaluable

Good luck and take care

Hi All,

I got my ILR yesterday, waiting for BRP now.

I would like to thank all members of this forum and special thanks to the moderators and everyone who have provided me with advise.

Below is my experience:
Category: Tier 1 (General)
Dependents: 0
Total fees paid: 1900 (Appointment booked before Feb 18th so new fee was not applicable)
PEO: Solihull
Employment status: Full time salaried employments
Out of UK absences: total 89

Documents Provided:
1. Cover letter
2. Employment letter confirming earnings
3. Salary slips
4. Salary account bank statements
5. LIUK certificates
6. Original Degree, PBS Printout awarding 10 points (selected Tier 2 General in PBS calculator)
7. Absence letter from employer (s)
8. HMRC letter for Pay, tax and employment history for last 5 years (HMRC didn't provided details for current tax year)
9. Passport
10. BRP
11. English language pass certificate
12. 2 Photographs (I have seen some post about photos with round edges, i had similar photos. They accepted it)

Reached at 8:50 , was asked to come back at 9:10. My appointment was at 9:30. At 9:36 i was issued a ticket and a form to fill with self employment details (was not relevant to me but I believe they scrutinize people with self employed earnings).

I was called for submission of documents at 10:15, took less than 5 mins. Then i waited for Biometric in the waiting area, called for Biometric at 10:45. I was told i can go out after that, roamed around the high street and had lunch. Got a call at 12:11 and the lady at reception said docs are ready for collection. At around 12:20 the approval letter and original docs was handed over to me.

Few additional information i wanted to share (some of them as :
1. I had few penalty charge notices. I didn't mention it on form, just mention in covering letter that i have few PCN but didn't mention in form as they are not criminal convictions, criminal offense or civil penalty under immigration act. Did not give any details. I was in doubt since the new form which came out in Nov 2015
2. I didn't fill the below sections
1.10 (home office reference
5.6,
12L,
Section 9 Subsection c (continous residence)

hi everyone ,
i would thank everyone who helped me directly and indirectly .
i got my ILR approval on Thursday 24th , sorry posting it bit late.
The experience in croydon was wonderful feeling,

The first Query I had , and everyone had before i applied is OLD fees and new form , thats what i used and i have no issue.

i went to croydon at 7:30 am , as i have appointment at 9:00 am , i know its too early but was afraid of london
traffic .
i asked the security to get in as it was cold , first he said NO, as i am too early , but then later he asked me to come in at 8:00 am.
my case was registered at 8:11am , i was third person , been called to a counter took all the documents and placed in file.
been called for bio metrics at 8:23am , and been told to wait in cafe area.
At 9:02 am i got announcement to collect .

can t believe it took approx 45 min for whole process .

i have been told , coz of easter there were limited appointments that day .

DOcs i submitted :

1) SET O form(new form and old fees).
2)12 months payslip and bank statements .
3)2 photos
4)life in UK
5)degree certificate
6)BRP

i have took all other docs related to my previous application , but didnt ask anything.
and yes they are checking everything from there system , using NI number .

BE HONEST .

please do let me know if you have anyone has a query .
thank you

Hello all

I got my ILR approved today & first of all thanks to everyone for sharing your experience (especially @Kanswam & @TechBro), it gave me good confidence before the big day... despite having 6 points in my driving licence (speeding offence) & few pounds (£200/-) difference on my self employment income that I shown to HO & HMRC SA on my 1st extension... (Note: despite this £200/- difference, I still meet my income threshold of over £35k-)

Appointment time: 8.00 am
Entered inside Croydon office: 7.50 am
Token number: 103 (so 3rd person in the queue)
Registering, submitting documents & doing biometric took approximately 10 mins
After biometric, the lady informed me that I will be called in an hour... but approximately after 90 mins, number displayed on the screen for collection... that's it... all approved...

No self employment questionnaire form been given to fill. I went with solicitor, so he did told me that at Croydon centre, questionnaire form will be provided only if the self employment + salary income combined is below the threshold level however at the other centres they give you the questionnaire form to fill straight a way & he was right as I didn't get any questionnaire form to fill in....

I booked my appointment online before 18th March & therefore I paid online only £1900/- I wasn't asked for any extra money / new fee.

For the absence, I filled in saying "Holiday to xx country" & "Business trip to xx country". Holiday & Business trip combined equals to 134 days. No employee letter been provided for explaining about holidays... (as I don't think its that easy in my case, as I worked for 4 different companies in the last 5 years..)

In case if I can be of any help let me know, I will try to answer it... for me now I have to start preparing for my wife's application...

Hi all

Successful ILR application

1. Category - Tier 1 General
2. Number of dependents - 1
3. Total cost - £3800
4. PEO branch - Croydon
5. Documents provided - salary slips, bank statements, letter from employers regarding absence since first obtained Tier 1, degree certificate & transcript, life in UK for me and dependent
Cohab evidence: rental agreement, mortgage agreement, home insurance, children's birth cert, council bills, electoral registration letter
6. Absences more than 180 days in any of the qualifying years - no (153 days since eligible)
7. Any Additional Comments - did not include children as would be applying for naturalisation. My covering letter explained everything and I had organised the documents neatly, labelled and clipped everything in order. Made it easy for the case worker which they mentioned during submission! Any queries please ask (but no idea about self employment criteria)

Hi All,

Finally the wait is over and I got my ILR today. Here is my story in case it's useful to anyone. (although pretty standard).

- Category: Tier1 General
- Center: Cardiff
- Dependants: 1
- Total cost: 3800 -- they DID NOT ask me to pay the difference in fees that was in place after 18th of March
NOT EVEN the £63pp out-of-hours fee for being a Sat appointment! -- I don't complain tho :D
- Absences from UK: 135 in total all paid annual leave.
- Documents: Pretty standard set of docs: Payslips + P60 (matching exactly the 12 month of salary) + Bank Statements + LIUK + University Degrees (UK), etc. -- NOTHING out of ordinary really
- NOT PROVIDED AND WAS NOT ASKED: evidence for annual leave absences
- PROVIDED BUT NOT SEEN: Proof of finance (ISA accounts), Marriage certificate
- COHABITATION DOCS: for every three month from two years back provided 1 join (or two individual) -- NHS letters, GP letter, Bank statements + water bill + elec bill + council tax + UKBA T1G Ext. Letters for both

ON THE DAY (appointment at 10:30):

10:00 -- did not let me in, said come back at 10:25
10:20 -- went in and security checked
10:35 -- case registered & all documents handed over (in my original ordered folders -- I highly recommend everyone to do this)
11:35 -- a staff asked me to fill a form about self-employment and given I was 100% salaried employed I just ticked a NO box.
12:20 -- biometrics + photo taken
14:20 -- called over and ILR APPROVED!! and documents back! -- YAY!

In total took 4 hours which is a bit lengthy, but it was through their lunch time -- so understandable.

Long time member here and finally I have got my ILR.

- Category: Tier1 (G)
- Centre: Croydon
- Dependants: 0
- Total cost: 2375
- Qualifying period: AUG 2010 - Present.
- Employment: Permanent Salaried PAYE employment since late 2013. Director of LTD company (Mar 2013), PAYE under umbrella company (May 2012), and fully granted PhD student previously (2010). Long story..
- Absences total 130+ days in 5 years. All for holidays, non work related.

Documents provided:
- Recent and expired passports
- BRP
- Payslips covering 12 months
- Bank statements covering 12 months
- Cover Letter
- LITUK cert
- 2x photos
- Employer Letter
- Photocopies of all documents
- I have a Masters Qualification that I used for previous T1 (G) application/extension so I just ticked that option while claiming it for points and proof of English competency.

No drama at all except it was a long wait, was a Friday. Took ticket at my allocated time (1040). Case registered at about 1130. Finished biometrics at 1210. Was told 1.5hour wait minimum.

1415 my case shown on big screen as under consideration. 1505 shown ready for collection. 1515 called to 'special' counter 44 :). Job done.

I wanted to post this here because there may be many people (me included) that are worried about having P60s and what not.
I supplied what was asked for in the forms and guidance + Cover Letter and Employer Letter and all was OK. That said, since 2012 I have been working at a very large reputable public sector employer.

Edit: For clarity, my employer letter does not state anything about absences. I just wrote in my cover letter that they are all due to holidays, and giving a nice table of out/in county dates and reason (mirroring the form basically).

Hello Group, Just wants to know is anybody waited longer for biometric card after approval of ILR. As I received get my ILR approval on 5th April 2016 on same day service in Croydon office. Lady mentioned even the approval letter state I will receive my Biometric card with in 7-10 working days. But not received yet. Is there any problem in this or just taking more time for delivery.
Very stressed

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

I applied and received my ILR yesterday (27th April)at PEO Cardiff. Below are the documents I have submitted

Category: ILR ( Tier 1 General)
Number of dependents: 1 ( But applied separately after two hours as a separate application with separate fee)
Total cost: £1900 - Paid before 18th of March and probably the last person who could able to get this slot within the limits of 28 days
Documents provided
1) SET (O)
2)Passports: Current & Previous
3) BRP
4) Life in the UK Pass certificate and a Photocopy of my Masters in UK
5) Accountant Letters
6) Photographs
7) Payslips
8 Invoices
9) Bank Statements supporting the above
10) SA302

The only worry I had is I have amended my tax returns of the year 2010-11 in the year 2013. It was a genuine mistake but still I am bit worried as there are quite a few rejections on this basis.

Overall time it took was 1hr 45 mins and it was pleasant experience. Thanks to all the moderators, Especially to "Vinny"

I became eligible for ILR in the last week of April and I applied for a personal appointment at Croydon with the help of a solicitor. I hired a solicitor to ensure that I did not fall foul of any changes that may have been introduced by the home office.

The appointment was for 09:10 with the application registration being carried out 15 minutes prior to the appointment time. Case registration and biometrics followed soon after and I was given a successful decision at 11:45. The BRP card was delivered one day later.
