Hi everybody,
I am employed with a TIER 2 General Visa at a University as a Lecturer in an Engineering department, with the SOC code 2311 (Higher education/ teaching professionals). I have started with the application, and was just about to submit and pay. However, I came across this bit of information concerning the ATAS on the university website (see the underlined bits):
ATAS clearance is currently required by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCO) for international students who intend to study certain sensitive subjects. Clearance is issued in the form of an ATAS certificate directly from the FCO.
From 21 May 2021 the Scheme will also apply to sponsored research staff and visitors.
(...)
Any individual applying for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Tier 5 (GAE) routes will need to gain ATAS clearance, if they are conducting research in a sensitive subject and are not an exempt nationality. This applies to both new starters and existing staff who are extending their contracts and visas.
Does applying for an indefinite leave to remain count as "extending the visa"? Do I need an ATAS for the ILR application? Nowhere in the document checklist generated during the ILR application is ATAS mentioned, and I couldn't find any information regarding that on the internet, so I would be very grateful if anyone could get back to me as soon as possible.
Thank you very much in advance .
