Indian citizen, student in UK, changing status, confused....

Hi everyone,

I am an Indian Citizen but I am currently studying on a student visa in the UK. I got married in October 2006 in India and I have got a marriage certificate issued by the Church in India. My wife holds "an indefinite leave to remain in the UK" and is currently living in the UK with me. Both of us are in this country since the last 4 years. I am still on a student visa. I want to change my visa status from student to spouse. How can I do that? Do I need to go back to India for doing this or can I change it from the UK itself since both of us are based here.

I have got several queries regarding this and find it very confusing.
