Info on Tier 2

Hi there,

Ive got loads of questions, so hope you guys dont mind....
First you need a pay rise, there is so much stuff to go through that you dont know where you are half the time...

My boyfriend and I are south africans and we are on a working holiday visa which exp in about 5months. His company has agreed to apply for work permit but he has to do all the paperwork and get everything together. since its about £1100 for the workpermit we sort of want to do it right the 1st time. he is in the process of getting all the stuff together. I think he needs to apply for a TIER 2. Is there any info you can give me to help him? I went through the link you supply on the website but it doesnt really help much. What forms does he need and references?

I also want to apply for one. In one of the criterias they said that you have to have a HND level relavent to the post, with 3yrs experience. I have a diploma for webdesigning and microsoft office. I do use Microsoft Office all the time in my job rol now as IT Service Desk. Will that deploma count or not. (I got the diploma in Australia when i was studying there) Also is it possible to get a work permit on a customer service basis? Because im dealing with customer day in and out. i also have a UK NVQ level 2 in cus care.

i think a work permit (WP) is 'only' £121, unless you are iintending to use consultants, who in which case they should provide you with all the information that you require, if you are going to pay £1100 then they really should get to do the work.

Firstly as to the 'homework' you need to do, first i suggest you log onto www.workingintheuk.gov.uk
this is the official Home office site and you should find info you require here, including the forms. download the forms and try to fill it in and from that you can see the amount of information you will need to collect. unfortunately your company wants you to do all the work but in as far as the WP is concerned most of the required info comes from their end, however it will help to just fill in whatever you can and ask the company to complete their gaps. just a bit of concern, if he wants to apply for the Tier 2 it means the company has to advertise the post and conduct interviews and subsequently explain why they are not going to employ a 'home' applicant, this might be difficult to do since you are already working there and i doubt the company will conduct interviews and use money to advertise just for the permit, however dont be too concerned it definately is something you can work around as you still have a bit of time.
