Interim limit on Tier 2 general sponsors etc

Hi does anyone here know if tier 2 (general) sponsors still have to request a new annual allocation if their current allocation is expiring in the next few months?

I've just had a client who's been sent an email urging them to request a new allocation. But I thought the UKBA was setting interim allocations and that was that. Why are they still writing to tell sponsors to request new renewal of Tier 2 general allocations?

I assume it's a mistake?
