Citizenship Application Query

Post by nosunshine » Tue Feb 26, 2019 12:59 pm

Hey Folks,

I have two questions regarding Citizenship Application based on 5 years rule.

First one is I have a gap of 22 days in my GNIB stamps. My Stamp 4 support letter was delayed so I had to re-book GNIB appointment hence the gap. I did apply the letter after completing 21 months on Stamp 1 but they did not process it on time. Will this affect my application?

Second one is about 6 weeks absence rule.

My application will be based on the below dates;

Days

06/11/2018 05/11/2019 364
06/11/2017 05/11/2018 364
06/11/2016 05/11/2017 364
06/11/2015 05/11/2016 365
06/11/2014 05/11/2015 364
1821

06/10/2014 05/11/2014 30 -To cover 22 days gap and a few days to make it to 1825 days ( and a few extra)

I was out of Ireland for more than six weeks only in one year. The first time I went to home country to get married and second time just for holidays and my understanding is I have to check 6 weeks absence in any year based on the date of application i.e 06/11/2019 rather than calendar year or GNIB stamps or should I wait until 07/04/2020 and then apply? Can someone enlighten me please? Thanks.

6 weeks rule is based on your application date (i.e. the date when the solicitor witnesses your application).

The gap does not matter. In fact most people who go through this route will have this gap because (1) DBEI is incapable of issuing the letter in time or (2) the applicant is unable to find an appointment after the letter is received and before the current GNIB expires. Just remember to explain this in your application. A cover letter would help as well.

Thanks very much for prompt reply.

I will make sure I do the proper cover letter.
