Hi guys,

I paid the €950 fee for naturalization on 29th of January this year, but didn't get an invitation for a ceremony, and then got caught by the COVID-19 crysis. Is there anyone else in my situation?

It's been 4.5 months since I sent the money and there's no real timeline of when/if I will attend a ceremony. I feel like I've been charged for something, that I didn't get. I just hope they don't lose my documents and bank draft.

Let's hope they'll schedule an online ceremony at some point.
I'm the same. I didn't even get a receipt for the bank draft I sent in. It's ridiculous that they can just take so much money form you and not give you a receipt, or any update on what's going on. It's not exactly a small amount of money.

New Minister for Justice HelenMcEntee was elected. Let' give her few weeks to get up to speed and hopefully, there will be some decision on citizenship ceremony.

Let s hope that she is more efficient than her predecessor and can clear all of the backlog quickly.

It looks like, processing of citizenship applications is really slow due to social distancing. On the first of July was update that they still processing passports for new applicants back from 27th of March.

"As per earlier communications, applicants are asked not to submit passports/application forms, this still remains the case.
Due to the need to maintain social distancing in the workplace, passports received after the 27th March have as yet not been verified."

I am losing hope for ceremony this year. Probably Litterr was right, it might not happen :(

According to a parliamentary question, they are working on the idea of virtual ceremonies (testing it anyway)

STATEMENT FROM THE NEW MINISTER FOR JUSTICE:

"Testing has already commenced on platforms which will enable the delivery of virtual ceremonies and as soon as the necessary arrangements are in place a notice will be placed on the ISD website and applicants will be informed"

"It is my Department’s intention that large scale ceremonies will recommence once circumstances allow"

Great News !

I didn't say it might not happen this year :) I just thought it was unlikely to happen in July, and it is unlikely to happen any time of the year in a venue with 5000 people. A virtual ceremony is certainly the way to go, as long as they can sort out all the legal requirements and technicalities. Great to see that they have this in planning.

Hopefully a rough timeframe is given at some stage when the the platform has been tested successfully and they can hopefully roll it out for virtual ceremonies. The parliamentary responses are very informative where their website is lacking.

Good news.
Virtual Ceremonies are the only solution as I had said in the very beginning. All they need now is to clear the backlog ASAP.
Just to give an update to everyone: My FOI request suggests that Garda Vetting and everything is done. All I now need is an approval. Applied in September of 2018 (Long time ago). A couple of other Pakistani friends are also facing delays, while others got approvals in the last ceremony.

Hello Brother,
How can I apply for FOI? Can it be done via email? I applied in April 2018 and haven't received anything since except the acknowledgement letter with reference number.

Can you explain to us how you apply for your FOI? Any form to fill, where yous end it to? Any document to include along with the application for FOI? Any fees? Can you explain to us, please? Sample format letter you used for the request. Thanks.

Hey Brother, When did you get your FOI file back? I applied for FOI in end February then Corona happened. So did not get anything back yet. I applied for Citizenship in May 2018 and I am from Pakistan.

Happy to see this!

BTW how are they going to notify people for the eventual ceremonies? (post, phone, email, messenger pigeon)

This pilot event was attended by 21 applicants who had opted not to attend the ceremonies that took place on the 2nd and 3rd of March in the INEC in Killarney Co. Kerry, due to Covid-19 concerns.

Hi,

I applied in May 2018. I got a reply from Dpt as I sent my query via local TD:
This application is currently being processed with a view to establishing whether the applicant meets the statutory conditions for the granting of naturalisation and will be submitted to the Minister for decision as expeditiously as possible

It is not possible to provide a definitive time-frame within which a particular application will be decided. The nature of the naturalisation process is such that for a broad range of reasons some cases will take longer than others to process. It is a statutory requirement that, among other things, applicants for naturalisation be of good character. In some instances that can be established relatively quickly and in other cases completing the necessary checks can take a considerable period of time. As a result there will always be a proportion of cases that take longer than the norm to process.

Mr. will be contacted, in writing, as soon as a decision has been reached.

We trust this is of assistance
Anybody knows, what does it mean? it looks like same normal reply. and My Application is still not with the Minister it looks like. How do they determine that the Applicant is good character or not?

Thanks.
